What is the best IPOD calendar and daily task application that you can also edit etc. on your computer?

I just bought an IPOD. I am looking for the best calendar , contacts, daily tasks etc. but I would like to also be able to edit it on my computer. Especially when first adding everything, it would be alot faster to do it on the computer. Also, if you know of any other apps that you really like and find helpful that would be great if you could share. I need to get my life in order. I feel like everything is falling to pieces.

hello-computer help ? prob not but i will try

Congrats on the ipod. I dont have apple products, and I want a smartphone...badly lol I cant seem to get the handle on a paper planner and try to use gmail, microsoft outlook and at school use groupwise email systems..

I think getting gmail is prob a good start, I know there are apps for the iphone and ipod. You can use ical too, that is apples product.

I am tech crazy, a gadget person, no one in my family understands that, but I love it, coupled with adhd, and the fact I am so dang impulsive, its a dangerous combination. I scour ebay for new deals all the time.

Why, i dont know...

either way, just try different things, google "calendars" etc...you wil find some good software. I cant tell you which one to use cause it all depends on you. Anyone else care to join in on this? I know there are techies out there!!

I could use some help too lol need a good sprint smartphone :)

calendar

I used the calendar with gmail. It was OK, but I currently use iCal, and like it better. I also have MobileMe, so my desktops at home and office, and iPhone, automatically sync, so whenever I make a change on my calendar on iCal, the changes show up on my calendars on all machines. Using different colors for categories of events on iCal (or gmail) is really helpful for getting organized or tracking patterns.

Best App is....

the ToDo app for iphone. I use gmail / ical for calendar entries and the todo app for the daily todo's. You can differentiate between work & home as well as projects, plain to do's, calls, emails etc. Very user-friendly and very cool. The iphone in itself is the best thing that could have happened to me. I carry it with me whereever I go and it reminds me to do things and allows me to input new things right then and there. If I need to write an email and am afraid I'll forget...I can do it with the iphone, right then and there. I would recommend the iphone for anyone with ADHD. Best thing ever! :D

re: add apps

I'd like to add to the question; Ihave ADD and OCD, etc. This combo creates a cluster everytime I try to create to do lists or remember Appointments, school assignments (college) and getting housework done.

I am consistently inconsistent and impulsive (shopping) overwhelmed by the details Iam obsesseed with. Ican't get a grasp of "Keep It Simple Stupid." Iaminterested in other's opinions on apps for my blackberry tour, To do lists with alarms that are different for differenmt tasks so time stop s getting away from me. I want to be able to enter the stuff on my PC and then transfer it to my Tour. What do PDAs run ($) now? Any advice on which one is best? Any info on which alarms watch is best? Please respond to me in a way that will reach my email as I will forget how to re- locate this thread thank you-Julianne <Julianne.hasten@gmail.com>

iPod and ADHD

Sign up for a GMail account, and also attach a Google Calendar account to it. Instructions at www.gmail.com.

I have one, my son and daughter both have one.

I can subscribe to my kids' calendars and give myself read-write access so I can put things on their calendar.

Now, using Google Sync (sync.google.com) you can subscribe to your account on your iPod. Once you've subscribed, you can enable your kids' calendars on your ipod, giving you a color-coded set of calendars for everyone right in your hand.

When I book my son's orthodontist, or he has an after-school meeting, we can both just enter them on our iPods and we both get updated automatically.

For To-Dos, get a free account at ToodleDo (www.toodledo.com) and buy (I think it's $3) the ToodleDo iPhone app. Now you have no excuses-- you can enter to-do entries any time, and they will sync when you have a network connection. You can access the to-do list anywhere you have a browser or on your iPod, even without a network connection.

I keep the ToodleDo and Calendar apps on the Dock (at the bottom of the iPod screen) so you always have access to them.

The main thing is you don't want to have the excuse that you don't have a network connection-- you'll forget to write stuff down. You want things that run and store stuff RIGHT ON THE iPOD so you don't have an excuse for not writing things down. This solution does that; when you get to a network your iPod knows about your calendar, contacts, and email will automatically sync, and ToodleDo can be set to sync when you open it.

I find this actually easier than using paper, I have my start-up screen on my computer set to bring the ToodleDo page up so I immediately see my tasks to be done.

IPOD and Apps

I have an I-Touch and use the CalenGoo App. It's great and syncs with Google's Calendar. You can use it without internet access, so that's awesome - sync auto or sync now. It also has various screen choices (Day, Week, Month, etc) and colors. It also remembers previous items so you can look at your History rather than inputting the same info each time you have an event. This is great for repeating events! I tried 4 others (including Organizer) and this was by far the most user-friendly and flexible. Good luck and have fun with whatever you choose!

try teux deux

I have tried a few of these - and being able to synch them with my computer is key. I use an iPhone, so I'm not sure which work on iPod, unless it's an iPod Touch, which I'm guessing is the same. I'm a big fan of Teux Deux (cute name, eh?) - which I got at teuxdeux.com. It's free, it has a really easy way to track to do lists and calendar stuff, and it looks on your screen like a datebook, which I like (YMMV). I also put appts in my desktop calendar because business meetings tend to come in email invites that go there once I "accept" and I can tell my phone to send me an alarm a half hour or 15 minutes before to remind me. But I tend to be late for everything! My advice is to try out a few, that's what I did - some people rave about apps that I can't stand. Other people will find Teux Deux way too basic. Good luck!

Pocket Informant

Pocket Informant: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pocket-informant-calendar/id302503702?mt=8

I've tried a lot of to-do list and calendar applications and this one is the best I've come across.

Pros:

Since I'm in school and I'm a very visual person, I needed a application where I could get a visualize my assignments for the week. Lists didn't allow me to visualize everything well, "post-its" were too time consuming, grouping didn't let me see a timeline.

PI has enough features to fit your needs. I use what I need and ignore what I don't. Plus, it is one of the few with a weekly view. It can also sync up with online applications -- Google Calendar and Toodledo (both free).

Cons:

PI is a bit pricy ($10), but there's an annoying lite version you can use to try it out. Honestly, I think that application was originally designed more for people who were used to a Blackberry interface. The navigation and features aren't as intuitive as other apps so it does have a bit of a learning curve. I just recently bought the switched from the "Lite" to "Full" version so I think there are some features I just haven't discovered yet.

Now -- I haven't found many calendar/to-do combined applications. If you want a good to-do list application and you like simple and intuitive, but customizable interface with computer editing, then Toodledo is fantastic.

How about Outlook?

You do realize that if you have Outlook, iTunes will automatically synchronize your contacts, calendar and notes from there to your iPod, right? I'm not entirely certain about the Tasks, but I'm sure about the rests.

Plenty of people have suggested various apps that will work with all the Google tools, and there are some that will work with Google Tasks as well (I didn't read all the preceding posts thorougly, sorry).

I've switched to using Airset for iPhone, because my family uses Airset as free family groupware for calendars and contacts. Unfortunately, it doesn't have adequate to-do lists, so I'm still looking for something in that aspect. I adore Life Balance (which is available for the iPhone/iTouch) but it's really pricey, especially compared to most apps. And Life Balance doesn't seem to have any provision for sharing information.

My life partner and daughter both have fairly serious ADD. I have not technically been diagnosed with ADD, but consider fibromyalgia fog "acquired ADD." Careful management and information sharing is the only way we get anything done reliably!

Other useful apps

I just got an iPod Touch specifically to help me get some control over my ADHD induced chaotic life. First I tried the Watchminder (watchminder. com)....a great idea...a watch with vibrating alarms....but terribly executed. Frustrating, expensive, and uncomfortable. Then I tried a simple PDA, but that wasn't going to do the trick (got an older, basic model on ebay). So, after unreasonable amounts of research...especially about apps....I decided that the iPod would be well worth the cost if it works.

I've spent the last two days searching apps and reviews of them...trying things out. I have not found the perfect calendar/day-planner yet....most of the most promising cost money and I wanted to try free ones to get a feel for things first.

But, I did stumble upon an app that, for me, is just an incredible thing. It's called Personal Assistant and the accompanying website is pageonce. com. It pulls SO many things into one place (so far I have added....Amazon, ebay, bank accounts/paypal, cable bill, car insurance, facebook, myspace, photobucket, ticketmaster, youtube, travelocity, aol mail accounts....) I was nervous about the safety of it and happily found that it has military level encryption, and has not had a single BBB complaint. It also has the support of McAfee secure, verisign secured, and TrustE certified privacy. I'm using the free version and am not sure what exactly an upgrade would provide, but will be looking into it further because this thing is going to be a lifesaver. Your main screen has all of the thing I mentioned on it...on the ipod and on the website.

While I was setting up my account, I realized how much time I waste whenever I need to log onto the places I don't visit every day. It took FOREVER to match all my passwords with accounts and required a lot of clicks on "forgot password?".

I randomly came across a second app that I immediately realized was a must have for females of childbearing age. It's called Period Tracker (there is a free Lite version, which I very soon upgraded for $1.99). When I remember, I do circle dates in my old dayplanner, just to try to keep track...and I never would have thought to look for an app for it. However, that is one less place I have to look for information that is otherwise scattered all over my life. This thing is great. Once it has 3 months of data entered, it calculates your average cycle length, duration of period, moods (although it doesn't chart it as a day-by-day thing, which I would like...it still can record a daily record of moods and symptoms ...I have bipolar disorder as well as ADHD, so I have also been in search of a mood charting app), even temperature and weight ( the paid version includes charts), The calendar provides a visual ...shows when your most fertile, most likely ovulating, You can also enter days of "intimacy", and predicts the expected date of next period (the opening screen ... after I use a password to get in ....says how many days remaining until then.) And then, All you have to do when it starts is open the app and click "period just started". It's quite visually pleasing, which is useful for me and makes me more likely to make use of it.

I'm at a point in life where I am desperate to find a way to get it together, because the disorganization in my space and mind is just overwhelming. I've been trying to get a college degree forEVER and it has been a long and very difficult struggle. It has become very clear that ADHD interferes with everything I try to do.

I was wondering the same thing

When I found this thread I was hoping to find out what experiences others have found with apps to help organize. This is just one of the homework assignments that my counselor has provided me with to help me manage my time and organize my thoughts and get them in sync. I have an iPhone 3g and have reviewed dozens and dozens of 'to-do's and calendar/time/organizing/management' apps. Tried a few but most of them seem too wordy or cluttered with stuff that I get lost before I get to what I am looking for. I was waiting for the next update to get PI as geminizebra mentioned and the other day I stumbled upon a brand new app for the iTunes Store. Here is the link :http://www.todoedu.com/ . I bought the more expensive app for $2.99 it is e.t.odo . Think I just figured out the buttons today by reading the f.a.q. page on their website, so now I am ready to give it a try for a while. It is designed for "graphically-oriented" people like me. If you are in school of any sort then you might want to take a look at "todoEDU", they claim it 'weanz you off wordz'. Sounds promising huh? I was going to get 'notepiler' which is the first app I found by http://www.onomaly.com/Onomaly.html. They have about a half dozen or so and more in the works. I will try to remember to report back on any progress I make with this app.
