New and Have Little Help

My 9 yr old is very bright yet socially always finds it hard. Not going into symptoms and after numerous behavoural experts being outsmarted from the age of 2 was finally diagnosed last August after a dex trial by a private doctor who we are not confident with. Don't get me wrong the behavioural ticks of being hyper, touching EVERYTHING, lying on the ground, making noises, his feeling of his head spinning and some of the aggression has stopped since being on Dex and clonidine and he now makes eye contact with me for the first time ever along with small amounts of empathy for some people (did get this a year ago). With giving the dex in the morning and lunch it keeps him at a constant yet if just in morning by 2ish he's bouncing again. Anyhow we now see more built agression, more defiance, he is still into construction (lego/K'nex) so much so it is everywhere and should any be broken his world is devastated, he has a more dominant need to do things that he sees needs doing before our requests are met, if he wants something usually lego he is totally fixated on it to the extent you want to scream but he HAS to have it (no most of the time we do't give in with reason but above him)he doesn't want to go out and play so much and has very low self esteem still. The doctor does not speak to him unless he's touching something and the other private wait lists are 6mths. I have him on one. As his mum I want the best for him and feel ok ADHD is being addressed what about the other aspects that were being cloaked by it and being told its behavoural to me is not enough when I know it isn't. (There are lots of symptoms and ways he has that I am not mentioning as so long).

Comorbid ADHD Conditions

Good for you for getting on another doctor's waiting list. It is important to find a professional who works for you. It may take a few tries to find the right professional, but the effort will be worth it.

Here are a few articles you might appreciate:

Also, ADHD symptoms are not always cut and dried. Your child is probably experiencing some of the many comorbid conditions associated with ADHD.

I hope this helps, Dena

sensory

Thanx Dena for the links most appreciated,

We went to a sensory workshop 2yrs ago and it is sooo worth going on if anyone has issues with their children. Just little adjustments can change a whole family so quickly from chaos to calm if your child has sensory issues. Just found it very helpful more so for my younger son.
