How to change bad habits
Hi everyone, I'm very excited to have found this site and the forums! I'm 23 year-old college student and was diagnosed with ADD at the age of four. A little background: As a child, I was placed on medication that I absolutely hated. So when I was given the opportunity to stop taking the medication, I did and developed my own strategies for coping.
I had a lot of time to develop skills to deal with school/environment issues so my work & academic components of my life are phenomenal right now; I could not ask for much more. Yet now I need some help enhancing the other areas of my life.
The social part of me, I can not seem to get a firm grasp on. I have struggled in basic conversations, plus finding, developing & keeping the right kind of personal relationships. Also, my finances are mess due to my inability to (1) remember when bills are due (2) staying focused in the grocery store and not getting distracted. I want to break these habits desperately; they only cause me pain and anxiety.
I started in 2009 to change this pattern slowly; focusing my energy to construct a lifestyle around my ADD than against it. So now I want to continue my progress to find ways to make life easier to manage and to (continue) moving in the right direction.
Thanks for reading my long (first) post!
