Symtoms of ADD/ADHD? Please help
I posted in another section but wasn't sure if right section. My son was born 9 weeks early, he is now 9 years old, nearly 10, he was a a good toddler, but was a little ocd with certain rituals having to put bins out going certain ways he would cry everyday if I didn't allow him to do these things he is better with this now, when he started school he used to have to wave out each window to say bye and panicked when I left this went on for at least 2 years. He is reasonably good at school and the teacher said he is good except for some dobbing and trying to tell her what she is suppose to do sometimes he is very messy with his work 99% of the time and doesn't finish work he is given and also is never organized with anything and would be happy to not bother with a shower or doing teeth. How do the teachers not see any of this and say he is fine. I have to ask him so many times to do something and a lot of times it does not get done still without an argument, I have asked professionals at school for help before and also heath people, but because he is reasonably ok at school they say no he is fine. I know this isn't just a parenting thing at all. He literally panics over the smallest things,he is always up and down and can't sit still at home or when we are out,He is always sitting in the car or chair on his knees or standing unless he is on the Play Station. He might concentrate and then I can't get him off it without panic as then he gets obsessed with playing it he overreacts all the time, if we get cranky at him he goes to the extreme of yelling out don't kill me or hurt me, when we don't touch him. Which is very embarrassing. Has started kicking his sister and my nieces when he is angry. My own family avoids having him because he is so full on, when my mum has him just for one night she doesn't try to get him to shower or do his teeth or anything so she doesn't have to argue or start anything. Or she bribes him with money, he always starts arguments and when we are at peoples houses when it is time to go he refuses to leave and can't just say bye and go and it doesn't seem normal for his age at all, there is so much more but I was wondering if any of this seems like it may be something you have dealt with or know someone else has,I am often in tears I guess because I get to the point of not liking him and it breaks my heart. Me and hubby are at a loss and don;t know what to do. I hope this doesn't sound horrible but Sometimes I just hope he is diagnosed with something so I know I can somehow fix this or get some help for him. Also, when I get upset with him for being this way he will sometimes say, "I wish I could kill myself, I hate myself." And I feel he can't always control it. He can be so sweet and caring one minute and spend his money on his sister and be so loving then he is just horrible, he interupts me when talking to people. He also is very indecisive and can't choose between 2 things, which I feel is a little like me. I think I have suffered with Anxiety for a long time and so does my daughter, and I know he gets anxious at times, He also has sleep terrors this is usually when he is anxious about something although I don't know If this is related to anything else. I guess I just want someone to help. Others are saying "oh this is just his personality", but since he was little I have felt there is something -- I just don't know what. How do you get people to listen?Sorry so long, but I found this site and thought I would ask for some help with this. Any help would be so so appreciated. So with add/adhd what can they concentrate on? He loves Playstation and Wii and will play this but fight with everyone when he is on it, he loves board games but again out of control with them and again we don't end up playing because he whines and ends up crying over them,He loves soccer but doesn't want to sit of and likes to keep going.Talk all the time, and always asks silly questions that involve what if this and what if that. And talks through movies. Sorry to go on I figure if I name a lot of things someone might be able to help me and maybe i can get more info and the doctor might listen to me. I am worried for when he is a teenager if he doesn't cope well with things. Thankyou again for anyone that can give me any info.. |

Get Professional ADHD Help
The best place to start getting help with your son is with a correct ADHD diagnosis. Ask around for referrals from friends to find a doctor you and trust and who listens. Once you get a diagnosis, you can ask the school about putting accommodations in place. But first, you need to get a diagnosis from a professional. Here are some articles that might help: Picking Professionals to Treat Your ADHD Child About ADHD Children: Diagnosis and Treatment I hope this helps. |
