Hyperactivity in Adults?

For the most part, it seems like the hyperactivity is a part of childhood ADHD. It seems to ease off significantly as the ADHD patient grows older. However, as a young adult ADHD patient, I still have major periods of hyperactivity/restlessness from time to time. I still have periods where I get this build up of energy that needs to be released in some way. When I feel like this, I'll often have the urge to pace back and forth or run around.

Anyway, I've noticed that most articles about coping with hyperactivity are directed towards frazzled parents who are having trouble making their kids sit still. I can't seem to find any articles on coping with restlessness as an adult.

Does anyone know of any articles dealing with this, or even have any tips of their own to share?

Hyper Adult

There are a lot of ADHD adults dealing with hyperactivity. People with ADHD just can't relax the way other people do. I once had a friend tell me she can't stand yoga because having to be still just about gives her an anxiety attack.

Here are a few articles that might help:

How to Relax with Adult ADHD

Deep Breathing Techniques for ADHD Adults

Calming Techniques for ADHD Adults

And don't deny yourself vigorous exercise -- a wonderful treatment for ADHD hyperactivity.

I hope this helps, Dena

Hyperactivity in Adults

I wish I did have an answer - sometimes I can't keep my mouth from running on full throttle with my brain revving faster and faster! I haven't found a solution yet and it's hard to deal with at times, especially for the listener - no wonder I don't have any friends, I guess...?

Hyperactivity in adults

As a biofeedback therapist for many years I have worked with hyperactivity in adults. There are ways to reduce the hyperactivity. I agree that starting any class like yoga or meditation will be hard because the class is too long and the instructor is not specific for the needs of ADHD but for the general population. What is needed for hyperactivity are short less that two minute exercises to start with. Once that is known then after practice an ADD adult can enter a yoga class because it will help. Some things that will also help- Reduction of foods that cause you to be hyper - like too much coffee or salt. use in small doses. Aromatic oils like grapefruit , lavendar, bergamot. find three oils you like ( no more ) then combine

Try passiflora tea A toy Zen garden Chineese metal balls for relaxation A short version of Jacobson progressive muscle relaxation Smiling when you have an attack, it reduces heart rate. Reflexology ( usually they teach breathing exercises too) an relaxing aromatic oils massage Also check out my video " Being In Control : Natural Solutions for ADHD , Dyslexia , and Test Anxiety" there I am demonstrating some of the exercises mentioned. https://sites.google.com/site/jasonalster/
