Anxiety

Hi. I am an ADD-adult (with an ADD child). This is about something that has been happening to me at my job and I am really looking for help/feedback.....We are obigated to present articles to our staff, including the manager. No big deal at all, just an article relating to health ( I am a health care worker) and some input. The "audience" is no bigger than 10 at any given time. My problem is that I suffer anxiety when giving my presentation. I feel short of breath, my heart is pounding, so when I am talking I have to pause to take a deep breath, and my reading/talking is jagged. I usually calm down within 5 m-7 minutes, but by then the damage is done. I'm mortfied , try to recover, and that's it. Then I'm left to wonder how my coworkers, including my boss, think of me, especially my boss. I don't want to lose credibility. This has happened about three times now, I listen to self-hypnotic downloads, try to relax, but when I'm on, I get those symptoms. Any feedback, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

overcoming anxiety

Denise - I used to suffer from anxiety when doing presentations. I've found two things that really helped me: 1) make an outline and practice, practice practice. 2) Since I can talk to just about anyone, but it was talking to a group that bothered me, I focus on one person for a moment - and "talk to that person". Then I would switch my focus/eye contact to someone else - and talk to him, and so on.

For me those two things worked wonders.
