Daytrana Patch / loss of appetite

My 9-yr old daughter has been on the Daytrana patch for about 6 months and is continuing to lose weight and have no appetite. She has lost a considerable amount of weight, and I am worried about her getting too think and malnourished. However, trying to change her meds is also scary because she has a "medicine phobia" and can't swallow pills. This is the whole reason that we started with the patch.

How do you know when to change medicines?

Loss of Appetite

My son is 6 and also experienced an extreme loss of appetite. He has lost 6lbs and now weighs 45lbs. I brought him to his pediatrician who suggested some weight gain measures to take such as increasing his cosnumption of foods that interest him. He also suggested boost, pediasure, and ice cream shakes. My some is a dairy lover so this has worked favorable to him and he is now maintaing his weight for 2 months. You may want to check with your pediatrician for height to weight ratio to ensure that your child is still within acceptable range for her age. I do have to watch carefully that my son does not loose any additional weight - it has taken much persistance and literal spoon feeding, however, i am happy he is noe maintaining...

Daytrana patch modifications

since my last post, we have been trying things to encourage eating for my daughter. I have been removing the patch earlier than normal so that she will be hungry at dinner time. Also, we give her a snack before bed, and sometimes send her to bed with a snack for during the night. Sometimes an apple, grapes, carrot sticks, or PB crackers, etc. She has been maintaining her weight of 65 lbs for about a month, but I am hoping for a weight gain soon. She began her ADHD journey as a chunky 82-lb girl wearing a size 12 clothes, and now she is back to a size 8. Her pediatrician doesn't want her to get any thinner, so I am hoping that these changes that we've made will help.
