Can I get prescribed Medication from a family doctor?

I'm going to be signing up for a community health plan. It does not cover mental health services, so I was wondering can I get prescribed any kind of ADD medication from a family doctor?

According to this article, a family doctor should be able to diagnose ADHD and prescribe ADHD medications.
