Availability of Meds - Focalin XR

Hi Everyone, I'm at the end of my rope. My son was diagnosed with severe ADHD/LD a year ago. We started him on Concerta and it was awful. He became very depressed and angry, so needless to say we took him off. We then started him on Focalin XR and the results were short of a miracle. He has been doing fantastic in school and has maintained his happy, crazy, amazing personality. He actually LOVES school now! So what’s my problem? We live in Bermuda and we do not the variety of meds available to us as in the US. We currently have three options, Concerta, Ritalin and Focalin XR. However, we have recently found out that the manufacturer of Focalin now refuses to ship outside the US any longer, due to "liability issues". Sorry, but I find that hard to believe (how much is malpractice insurance in the US now????) I am desperate to find out more information on this! Does anyone know how to go about contacting these companies that manufacture/distribute these meds? I know there is a TON of paperwork involved in importing/exporting these meds because they are essentially classed as a controlled substance. I’m wondering if maybe it is the importers here that are just being lazy. Why do kids outside the US have to suffer simply because they live in a different country. It’s really disheartening. My son’s Dr. will now have to refer him to Boston to obtain his prescription, and we face the chance that the insurance company won’t cover the costs as they are still quite discriminatory against “mental disorders” here. Anyway, I’m just throwing this out there in case there is someone/anyone who might have some sort of lead! Pardon the rambling!!!! I reckon I’m ADD too ?
