Best iPhone/Smartphone Apps to Manage ADHD Issues

I recently bought myself an iPhone after I found the one issued by my last employer to be indispensable in managing my symptoms and keeping me on track. I wanted to share some apps that have really helped me, but I'd also like to know which ones work best for other people. </br>

Since I don't have apps on blackberry or android or windows mobile, I don't know what else has helped people. I'd like to blog about the apps below any suggestions provided. This is a surprisingly scarce topic on the web (at least in regards to apps used to assist adhd)

Apps that have become my brain:

-Evernote (with premium subscription is most useful)

-JotNot

-put things off

-italk recorder lite

-google mobile app

-white noise

-clock (for daily alarms and timer)

-usaa/mint.com

-bump

-grocery IQ

-webMD

-calendar(linked to mac acct)

Apps I want to try:

-reqall

-ifitness

-mobile navigator vz

-bento

-xpense tracker

-iown

iphone apps for add/adhd

when i was considering switching from blackberry to an iphone, someone commented that it would change my life. melodramatic n all but it did to a degree.

apps that come with the iphone, if i get lost or turned around while i'm driving, i can click on the maps and gps will show me where i wandered off and how to get anywhere from my current location. this function even has a walking and public transportation feature. gps is also great for not having to be stuck in traffic. before i go anywhere (i live in los angeles) i click my gps iphone feature and check traffic, then map out my route so i can check different routes. nothing worse than being stuck in traffic with adhd, i mean it would be a good excuse, if you weren't already 20minutes late.. :D

alarm i have used the alarm to remind me to listen for a phone call, stop/start another task because the alarm has a note section which pops up with alarm, i can add "must get up early to get the worm" or what task i am supposed to do next, this has been useful except those times where i walk away from phone or don't read the note ect,.

calendar add appt, birthdays, bills, and due dates with two reminders plus notes

camera keeps us busy and love taking pictures but also good for taking pictures of items that i am interested in so i don't feel like i have to purchase immediately or i'll forget, that way i have the picture and can think about it and be less impulsive.

messages you can text for days and it shows your history, so when someone texts you , you are reminded what you had been discussing a week or so prior.

apps i picked up that help

idea pad simple place to keep ideas and description

gratitude journal mood tracking and journal with photo upload per day. plus it gives you a quote each time you use it.

quote of the day whenever i crave a mind pick me up

to do lists i still haven't found one that works for me but there are alot of great ones

bank apps pay bills on my cell whenever wherever !

the first app i bought for $2 was the koi pond it's so cute and kinda relaxing

oh one that i almost forgot but has had the most direct use for adhd mindwave a bilateral sound app that allows you to listen to various waves to help you either relax, headache relief, sleep, creativity, coffee?, adhd focus, learning ect listening to these sounds waves really do work , there are a few that do little for me but just the handful that do alot are worth the iphone price alone.

there are plenty more, there are also fun apps like games and noises and social apps but i'm more interested in productivity and photography apps as you might have noticed.

strongly suggest for adhd management.

i liked my blackberry and found email use was easier to use on it then the iphone's email and text functions but everything else makes up for this one weakness in the iphone.

oh and one more thing, buttons and colors.. what i like about the iphone's interface is that it is colorful and uplifting you can also choose the apps that look good and work well.

Great iphone apps for add'ers

Some great apps I have found helpful in addition to those already mentioned (just put into Search in Apps) : "Take me to my Car - helps you find your car again when you have no idea where you parked it. Just hit it to mark where you parked and it will walk you back to it! "Time Since" helps you know when you last had your hair cut, coloured, birthdays, how long you have been married, since you went to the dentist, doctor. Ok you get it. "Altered States" brain-wave activity you listen to with headphones. Look especially at those called: Quiet mind; Inspired Creativity; Tranquil thoughts Unotan - Brain Training. I actually paid for this one, about $5. It gives you memory training, concentration training and intuition training with lots of bright colours and pictures as well as background music while you do it if you choose. Lastly, "Twitterific" (free) makes Twitter much prettier and easier to use. Love that iphone!

Great apps for low price or for free!

The first apps that I explored were a kind of scheduling software. When I used outlook, I thought it was such a seamless way to organize everything, I wanted to find an all-in-one app, but I couldn't find one I liked. So now I break it down into smaller apps (which isn't ideal since I like more synchronization, but what can you do)

Touch Goal -- my favorite! I'm late for everything and have a really irregular sleep schedule. It uses a point system for you to keep track of your habits -- I have -1 points when I get to class late or +1 when I get my goal 8 hours of sleep. So even if I'm late for every morning class, I can make up points by +1 for eating a healthy meal or +1 for doing my laundry. It isn't perfect, but the developers seem really committed to making important changes.

Clock -- the alarm isn't very good, but the timer is excellent.

Toodledo (also available for other smartphones)-- there are lots of to-do applications but I like this one because it's open-ended, and is simple but still has enough features where I feel I get what I need out of it. MOST IMPORTANTLY, it has an online application you can also use for free!

Best app to keep yourself on task

I have been using a super simple app to keep me from getting distracted from the task at hand. It's great for work, homework, or paying bills -- even housework. I always mean to continue my project, but I am often distracted by Facebook or emails or getting a drink/snack or something more exciting ;). The "stayontask" app is an easy solution that doesn't involve any real set up on your part. Just turn it on and get on with it! It's available at the official android market place: https://market.android.com/details?id=valavg.stayontask

Highly recommend - and simple enough for kids! Just choose the desk picture if you're hard at work or the frowny face if you got sidetracked!

The calender!!!

I put everything in my iPhone calender and set reminders to go off at different intervals so I don't forget appointments, that I volunteered at my kids' school, that I need to ask for a day off, that I need to call my aunt...it's like a little friend who taps me on the shoulder and reminds me.

Pocket Informant keeps me on top of life!!

My fave app (this app literally contains my entire life and I would be lost without it!!) is Pocket Informant. It is pricier than the average app (about $10 - available for iPhone and android not sure about blackberry) and because it has a lot of features/customization can take a bit of playing around/setting up to get it really working for you (but once you do-well put it this way- this is the only app I can honestly say has changed my life for the better!) The most recent update has really made this an all-in-one app with calendar, to do, notes and contacts and now allows you to password it to keep your personal appointments, notes and thoughts confidential.

The calendar is great and very customizable. Multiple calendars/tags can be set up to organize/view/filter your entries. Being able to import/sync multiple calendars is a godsend for me. I have individual calendars set up thru gmail for myself and each of my kids. Takes a bit to set up the sharing/permissions but now we all have our calendars synced (only the ones we want to share-ie: kids don't see my personal calendar items). This is great because as soon as the kids know about an event (such as my dd's patrol schedule) they can put it into the calendar and it syns with all of our calendars! No more (well almost!) forgetting to tell me about things till last minute or stopping to visit after school when we have to get to an appointment!

The task part of the app is also great. Can set things up as a project and break down into smaller to-do items or use the child feature to make Multi-step tasks more manageable. Several choices available for what kind of system to use (Getting Things Done, Toodledo etc). Also easy to sort/view in multiple ways to keep on top of things. Gmail calendar also has to-do feature but haven't figured out yet how to get to do's to sync with kids' calendars yet which would really help keep on top of things and follow through to make sure kids get stuff done (this is a major problem area for me) ;-)

New to the app is the Notes feature (I love having everything all together!). Again can be set up to work/organize/view in the best way to suit you. Notes can be linked with tasks or tagged to make them easy to find. Also now imports your contacts to easily link contacts with events or tasks.

Other great apps to manage life with!

A few others I use in conjunction with pocket informant (or before I had it)

Cozi family organizer: Calendar, to do lists, shopping lists and journal. All members of family can log in and view update everything and then it syncs to everyone. Can email/text weekly family agenda and important reminders to all family members. Great way to keep the whole family organized. Can sync with other calendars (like google) but not as well as pocket informant. Also, all appointments etc. Are visible to everyone so not great if you have personal stuff to keep track of that you don't want everyone to see.

Home Routines: I don't like clogging my calendar with daily/weekly things so this is great to use alongside. Basically you set up your regular "routines" (wash dishes, pack lunches, take meds - you get the idea) and select which days (ex school/work day/night vs weekends) to apply the routine to. You can set an alarm to remind you and then you just check off the items as you do them. Also has "focus" areas that rotate (you select how often) to do the deeper cleaning etc. (ex: dishes, wipe stove might be on your everyday routines but cleaning oven, washing windows, etc. can be put into the "kitchen" focus area and be done every couple weeks when "kitchen" comes up as your focus area. You can add "spend 15 minutes on focus area" in your daily routines to remind you (and do a little each day) and has a built in timer you can set to keep you on track (or keep you from hyperfocusing and spending too long on something).

Evernote / ScatterBrain: both great notes apps I have used before notes was available in pocket informant. ScatterBrain is great fir storing/color coding basic lusts and thoughts (text). Evernote also has voice notes, can put in pictures etc. which ScatterBrain can't do (picket informant notes also can have pics and audio).

ParkBud: find parking near your location, hit the button when you park then it will guide you back to it after, timer to keep track of when your parking meter will run out. I just got this one but so far seems to work ok (but I know there are also other similar apps - don't know what the best one is yet).

Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock: set the alarm (and time span such as half hour) and put the phone on your bed. It monitors movement to track what sleep state u r in. The alarm will go off when you are in a "lighter" sleep during your selected time frame. Helps to make it easier to wake up and to wake up more alert (not jarred awake from a dead sleep). Also tracks your sleep cycles throughout the night so you can see your sleep patterns/amount of sleep you getting.

Ok, so thats my "how did I ever survive without them" apps!
