ADHD Drugs and Heart Problems

I am a 55 year old who had a M.I. at 49. I was diagnosed at 39 with ADHD. A few years later I was formally diagnosed through testing ADHD with mild depression.

Prior to my heart attack I took several different drugs over time for my symptoms, Adderall being my personal favorite.

My Internal Medicine Doctor is pretty conservative. He has prescribed Wellbutrin to me after I complained about symptoms of depression. At first I was taking 300 Mg and I felt like I was going to crawl out from under my skin, especially if I drank coffee. I called him and he reduced the dosage to 150 Mg.

Some pretty tough family issues have hit me head on. And joy of joys the holidays are coming!

I am having trouble putting off paper chases I have to deal with as a teacher. I have a wonderful ADHD job and don't want to put it at risk. My leadership at work knows about me and are supportive. I excel at reaching children others can not.

My wife is very understanding fellow ADD'er and an educator as well. I talked to her about seeing a psychiatrist so I can have him/her monitor my meds.

Where do I look? How do I look? I live in Lewisville, Texas and work in Arlington, Texas. I have thought about changing internal medicine doctors because mine is so far away (downtown Dallas). The doctor I have now is rated among the top 5 doctors in the city by D magazine. He kept my Dad alive until he was 83. Tough decisions.

Thanks for reading,

Cochise

When I tried ...

a stimulant medication, I realized that this could adversely affect my blood pressure. I take medication for high blood pressure. When I took the stimulant I noticed some slight heart palpitations. This means to me that it's too risky to use a stimulant, and I therefore have abandoned this treatment.
