Disconect Between Brain and Paper

My 11 year old son is very smart. He studies materials for a test and knows it very well. He gets into the test and cannot put it down on paper. He teacher is very aware of the situation and will ask him the same question VERBALLY and he gives her a better answer that way than he can write on the test--we have test techniques to calm him down for the test (deep breathing works) and we go over them before the test--however, the same thing keeps happening--can anyone help me

Test Anxiety & Organizing Thoughts

Sounds like you are dealing with a little bit of test anxiety. He needs help organizing his thoughts so he can express them on paper. Hopefully, his teacher will work with him on the testing process. Do you have any accommodations in place? Maybe he can take verbal tests. If the point of the test is to make sure your son knows the information, it seems a verbal exam would serve the same purpose.

disconnect between memory and taking writtten tests

Dena thanks for your help-have done all of your suggestions and we have a wonderful teacher who is very accomadating. I am just baffled as to why there is a disconnect between the mind and putting it on a piece of paper. someone suggested getting a small word processing portable computer and see if that works bill
