Intuniv in impulsive aggression
We just started our 8-year-old son on Intuniv a week ago. He has impulsive aggression whenever he gets frustrated, which is often and because of anything. He is a great student without any problems there. He loses it at home and kicks, punches, bites and breaks things. He also has hyperactive issues that do not cause problems. AFter trying to help him by changing the diet, homeopathy and sessions with a psychologist and no real improvement we got him on Intuniv last week (1mg).
The results are not so good. Approx 5 hrs after his first dose he got extremely aggressive, the worst episode in weeks. We switched to giving him Intuniv at night. He was sleepy for two days, very aggressive verbally, not physically. The tiredness is gone now, but...he is still verbally aggressive, easily frustrated, wakes up at night and has lost all his quirkyness. It is showing up around dinnertime when one dose stops working and the other not yet.
He is not happy with his behaviour, but cannot help it. We had hoped that Intunivmight help him and thus the whole family. Obviously this is not the right medicationfor him.
