Legal Rights of Custodial Parent

My ex husband and I share legal custody (50/50) of our now 10 year old son. I have 80% physical custody. Our son was diagnosed with ADHD at about 5 years old and again at 8 by a private psychologist, a school psychologist, a psychiatrist and a social worker, as well as lay people with ADHD experience. My ex refuses to believe that ADHD even exists much less that our son has it. Consequently he will not allow me to provide medication for our son and adamantly refuses to even talk to any of the professionals that have diagnosed our child. And because we have joint legal custody, he can do that. Our son is now in 5th grade and though academically he's doing well his behavior is not improving and because he's getting older the expectations of his teachers is that he should be acting more mature. I feel like it's "crunch time" for his academic life and if he doesn't get some help now, he'll really suffer even more than he already has. He does have a 504 Plan and this was discussed with his father at the initial meeting prior to the 504 Plan but that was the last time his dad spoke to anyone concerning this. HELP, I need to know what my legal recourse here in California is. I want to be able to provide medication for my son without being hauled into court.

I hate the 50/50 rule...

I see this way too much in CA. I do not think another spouse with 50/50 can prevent you from medicating anymore than you can force him. I have seen this played out over and over again. The only thing that I have seen with disagreements on 50/50 legal custody is that the judge has to decide... and ,of course, the lawyers get richer. I even had a case where both parents filed on our district wanting the exact opposite outcome. No matter which one we settled with, the other was going to litigate against us. (Cheaper than family court.)
