Accomodations
You have a few options, you could look into accommodations if you think they would help him. A Parent's Guide to ADHD Accommodations Six Accommodations for ADHD Students Or, you might consider a tutor who might make your son more accountable - Does Your Child Need a Tutor? I hope this helps, Dena |

16 year old son frustration
We too are having"issues" with our 16 year old.... everything from him expanding his living areato the entire house, to him with the ever constant "in-a-minute" answers to our requests for basic living and co habitating norms. His clothes are everywhere, he sees no wrong in anything he is doing He bosses siblings around as if they were his servants...all the while thinking housework is women's work. However, the other son can be the most loving and considerate guy you would want to know. Parents of other kids are always commenting on his great manners and gentlemanly ways however; when Mr. Hyde enters our front door he can be a totally different person. Perhaps this is "normal behavior" for a16 yr. old boy... ? He is a handsome and "desirable" young man. The prize ofhis group and several "older" Senior Girls have him in their sights and want to be the first to "Have" him ... a trophy of sorts.. getting his male virginity ...when I was his age it was the other way around. Now . . . in speaking with him he is well aware of the situation and states he will not make that important of a decision or be used. Anyways, if he wants one of these senior girls, his plan is to wait until the last few weeks of school or first weeks ofsummer vacation ...that way he won't have to see them around school everyday. THE Question . . . Impulse Control ! ? He has not yet keyed-in on getting his driver's lincense. The ADD and Impulse Control issues.... any good ideas on measurment of his skills and/or controlling his behavior, which at times, although very funny, certainly not appropriate behind the wheel. Any ideas would be welcomed. State laws about youths driving youths and late night driving laws will help but 18 is just a blink away...and we all know that Guys "Never-grow-up" at least not until 26-30 years old. I can related to a couple of things you have mentioned. My husband and I also get a personality that is different then what his friends see and their parents. My son is also very good looking and has alot of friends.that seems to be more important to him then anything. In regards to driving, my son has his learners permit.He is required to drive with an adult for a whole year. He wont be able to get his permanent license until he is 17. I will cross that road when I get to it. I read a statistic recently that scared me. A ADD teenager is 4 times more likely to have a car accident. Is your son on any medication? How is he doing in school? lourdes |
