How do I Know if Medication is Right for my Son?
I am the mother of a 15 year old with ADD and probably some other issues (depression, anxiety). He has been taking Zoloft and has done pretty well, but really struggles in school. He is very bright and in all advanced classes, but doesn't turn in homework - either doing it and forgetting to turn it in, or just drifting around the house all afternoon and evening and not doing it at all. I feel he gets overwhelmed by the stress and burden of school and his downward-spiraling grades, then doesn't know how to catch up and so just gives up. I cannot decide whether to put him on a stimulant medication because he's not "hyperactive" in the traditional sense. But he sure seems to share a lot of the behavior issues that I've seen discussed in these forums (organization, grades, homework, oppositional behavior...). Any advice? |

That is a question you should discuss with your son's doctor. But it won't hurt to do a little research on the options so you can make a more informed decision. Zoloft and Adderall
My daughter takes Zoloft and Adderall XR. She has anxiety/OCD and ADHD. The Zoloft has been great for her and she says she notices a big difference if she doesn't take the Adderall. Especially if its a school day. She is 15 years old. |
