Very Frustrated Wife

Counseling recently diagnosed me w/ ADHD. I've been taken some meds with some improvement. Unfortunately my wife is one who is brunt of the whole thing. I'm sure this is common. I feel for her and understand the frustration. This empathy doesn't get me through the forgetfulness or lack of attention to important matters. So it's an uphill battle which will take a lot of patience. I'm not sure she will have it in her. On the other hand I'm not sure I want to hang all my downfalls on ADHD. So I'm perplexed and concerned about my wife and son. I want them to be able to have confidence in me and trust me.

There is help

Getting an ADHD coach saved my marriage.

A good coach can help with so many things - medications, feedback, strategies, and they can also help bridge the difficulty we can have in understanding what non-ADHD people need and how they interpret things. It has also helped me clarify some of my problems to my wife which she may have mis-interpreted as uncaring or neglect.

One of the other advantages of getting a coach is that demonstrates your willingness to own the problems that ADHD present. My wife is willing to help me but she doesn't want it to be her job (at least entirely) to manage my condition.
