19-year-old with ADHD

Hi everyone I'm new here my son is 19 and was diagnosed with adhd last year. I had him on Ritalin for awhile but he was hanging out with all the wrong kids and was afraid he was selling them. After trouble with the law last year things seemed to be ok. He never had a steady job just work here and there. Now he just got into trouble again with the law and is back and forth with court. I'm looking for some treatment for him that's natural for now had anyone tried the fish oil. I've heard some positive things about this. I'm so drained trying to keep him safe right now and if he doesn't follow the program the assigned him he can go to jail. I'm so scared and could really use some support from people who have been there before . Thanks

ADHD Teen

There are some excellent alternative ADHD treatments out there, including fish oil, that are very effective; but they aren't going to help your son tow the line. My heart goes out to you. That must be scary.

If you have the time, take a look at these articles about parenting ADHD teens, maybe they'll provide some helpful suggestions about how to deal with your son.

19 year old with ADHD

Hi Gale! I just happened to catch the title 19 year old with ADHD. I could've written that message. I have a son who has been desperately searching for a job since he graduated in June 2009. He got in trouble 2 weeks after his 18th birthday which was being dealt with. The other day he was with the wrong person at the wrong place and got in trouble again with the law. I pray he doesn't go to jail or it would be devistating. The bad part about it is I've been dealing with ADHD since he was born. He was diagnosed in 1st grade. Then he turns 18 and becomes a so called adult and we no longer can know anything. I understand your concern over the medication, because they are being sold. My problem right now is he has no insurance. I personally feel that their diagnoses should be taken in to consideration when they get in trouble since one of his biggest problems is impulsivity.......Thanks for letting me vent.
