Medication Alternatives
My 6 year old son was diagnosed early this year, when I suggested to the doctor I wasnt a fan of stimulant medication I was brushed out the door left with a business card "to call her when I was tired of dealing with it." It felt as if his pediatrician was a used car salesman, disappointed I didnt buy her product. It seems his biggest challenge is the classroom (surprise, surprise)
I am hesitant to start stimulant medication mostly because of the adverse side effects. I've started giving him Omega supplements (as recommended by his psychologist) we found his aggression has subsided but he is still inattentive in class. His teacher says he is "always upside down and backwards in his chair" He has been defiant and refuses to remain in his seat. Is there any natural supplement that may help his cause?
He is actively involved in various extracirricular activities (t-ball, soccer) and excels on a team. We try to keep him active to filter his energy. He still cant function in a classroom.
When not in school or sports, he is normally around adult family members, we dont really experience his school behavior. We know he is hyperactive, because of this we maintain his diet (cut out as much food dye and additives as possible) which seems to help with the hyperactivity at home.
I am curious to know if anyone has tried any supplements with some success.
