Long-term usage of Concerta

I have been taking 54 mg of Concerta daily for about 3 years. I recently had my ADHD/learning disability testing redone because I am trying to get accommodations to take the CA Bar exam, and even fully medicated, my scores did not improve from when I was 19. I have been having a really hard time lately - forgetting that I called in prescriptions, losing things, not remembering why I went to the store - and I am starting to think that the medication is no longer effective. I do have an exceptionally busy and stressful schedule right now, as I am in my final semester of law school, but I am not sure if that is the only problem. When I was on Ritalin several years ago I eventually had to switch because it stopped working, and I am thinking this might be the same problem. Does anyone know anything about long-term usage of Concerta? Can anyone suggest any different medications for when I meet with my doctor next week? Thanks!

ADHD Medications

It is probably a good idea to research ADHD meds before you go to your doctor. Maybe you just need to adjust your dosage. That is something you definitely want to discuss with your doctor.

Good luck

Schedule II Stimulants

Here is what the Controlled Ssubstances says about ADHD stimulants, of which Concerta is a prominent prescription:

A) The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.

(B) The drug or other substance has a currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States or a currently accepted medical use with severe restrictions.

(C) Abuse of the drug or other substances may lead to severe psychological or physical dependence."

Until we integrate a physiological test based on perceptible markers, any recommended dosage is a guessing game. I do not understand why we allow this type of dangerous speculation.

Alternatives

Hi,

I believed there are other alternatives available in the market other than these psycho stimulants. These psycho stimulants usually have negative side effects that can affect your day to day living. You should explore more on different options I am sure there are a lot in store for you given the advanced medical research and technology we have nowadays.

Alternatives

Yes, I agree with the above post. In my opinion, we should stay away from sythetic drugs as long as we can coz it's not really good for our body.
