Is lying part of ADD or ADHD?

My 21 yr. old daughter who has ADD, but lives elsewhere, doesn't take meds for ADD, as she claims she saw a doctor who says she doesn't have ADD. No point in arguing this at the moment. I am wondering though, if lying is part of ADD. She bought me a nice birthday gift, and gave it to me when visiting me the other day. It was really nice, so I asked her where she bought it, because I had not seen anything like it, and it was really nice. She said she bought it at a store close to where she lives, but couldn't remember the name of it. When she left, I found the sales slip in the book she gave me. (was part of the gift) She told me they sold flowers in the store she bought the book in. I know they do not. The store is in a mall fairly close by that I have been in many times. Why do you think she felt she needed to make up such a lie? I am not going to tell her I know the truth, I just don't know why she would lie about such a small thing that is not a problem. Have any ideas? Elizabeth

Lying and ADHD

According to this article about ADHD and lying "Some ADHD kids may not be dishonest as much as they are victims of uncontrolled ADHD symptoms and serious lies sometimes spring from an inability to treat and manage ADHD symptoms."

I hope this answers your question. Best, Dena

Thank you Dena. One other question if you don't mind.

Thank you Dena. That was a really big help. This helps with both kids. At the end of one of the articles it said that when people lie, they sometimes avoid eye contact. My DH always has avoided eye contact with me, unless I insist. He says it is part of ADD, and when he is not looking at me, but at the computer, for example, he can concentrate better on listening and having a conversation. Does that sound right to you? Please let me know. Again thanks so much for your reply re: lying. Have a good day.

Lying

If lying is a smyptom of ADHD, then the estimated rate of adult ADHD would skyrocket. The number would move from 4-% to around 99%. The entire Congress would have ADHD.

Lying is a pervasive trait practiced by every human being since day one.
