Has Anyone Put Their Child on Anti-depressants?

My daughter (13 years old) has been going through a very hard summer. Her best friend moved away. They were like sisters. The worst part was that the parents were going through a breakup and everyday things changed as to where the mom was going to take her. She would set up times to get together and then not follow through. One night my daughter got a call at 10:30 pm saying that she is leaving and moving 8 hours away the next day at 6:00 AM.. It has been such an emotional rollercoaster. To put it in a nut shell. The main problem is that my daughter would sob sometimes until 2:00 AM She doesn't want to do anything or see anyone other than immediate family. Things she once enjoyed gives her no interest. She will go from being like this to being very hostile and angry to the point that she even said : I HATE YOU! to me. She later regretted it. Should I consider trying an anti-depressant (she has an appointment next week) Has anyone ever had their child on them and what were the results? I know as well that partially she is experiencing puberty, but I think it goes way beyond that.

what's normal?

Hi there, though this question is old now and maybe this issue is past...but! A 13 year old who is upset and grieving about her friend moving, like all of us react in certian ways. Grieving is normal, sadness, anger, frustration. To put a stop/dampen this with drugs seems major. There are many gentle natural methods to help someone such as your daughter through this process. One possiblity is specific herbs, and natural flower essences along with your support and reassurance. These remedies are natural do not have unwanted side effects and are non-addictive. A viable option I suggest. It saddens me to think the first thought is to medicate I hope this helps kate thehealthnut.com.au
