Tantrums, Food and Stealing
Finally got the homework battles to a point where the stress level is minimal, now the tantrums seem to be triggered by food. My son is nearly 12, and eats more than my husband. I've heard growing boys eat alot, so was expecting that, but he is eating to a point that is simply ridiculous. He is always in the cupboard or fridge, and if I say no or halve the big ration of food he wants to eat, the tantrum is simply spectacular. I cant trust him in the kitchen alone anymore as he wolves down whatever happens to be left out, barely tastes it and seems to be eating for the sake of eating. He is constantly shouting and screaming he is hungry, even if he has just eaten a huge meal. He has also started doing this at other peoples houses, and if I tell him not to ask for food or ask him to wait until we get home, he has a massive tantrum regardless of who else is around, and then usually ends up with what he wants because everyone is embarrassed. Stealing money from my purse has also become a nasty habit of his, as he wants to indulge in junk food without me knowing. We've tried several ways to stop the stealing, including giving him pocket money, but to no avail. I no longer leave cash laying around the house if I can help it, but he has begun stealing from other family members when he visits, and we are horrified! If food or money are left out where he can see it, he seems unable to stop himself from taking it. Is this a control thing? Is it about the food or the money or the control that comes with eating what he wants, when he wants? Please help!
