Thoughts? My Four Year Old Son....

I will try to make this as short as possible!!! My son will be four in a few weeks. Ever since he was a toddler he has been CRAZY busy.... Everyone has always said he's a boy, he's two... etc Well, he is almost four and STILL is crazy busy, and I am exhausted. I feel like he is always in trouble anymore.... Please help! Here are some examples:

He never walks... He runs jumps or bounces everywhere

He does not listen.... I feel like he tries, but he gets distracted or forgets what I have asked him to do

If I send him to get something from his room he never makes it because he has been distracted by a million other things

He screams all the time.... Happy screams, mad screams, sad screams everything is loud and over the top

In a room full of 50 kids the only one you will notice is my son because he is so over the top....

He thinks everyone is his friend and hugs everyone.... He has no boundary control....

I feel like he is impulsive....

On the flip side, he can sit still and watch TV, play computer games, play trains, write letters, etc. If he is interested he can focus....

Last night was his first soccer practice and it just really stood out to me that he was not like the "average" child. The other kids were quiet til they warmed up, he was in your face loud and enthusiastic.... He would not sit and listen quietly, he constantly had to interject his thoughts.... I am just so concerned and I really don't know if I should be.... In the back of my mind I have been noticing this for quite some time, but now I feel it is just so obvious that something is not right.... I have a call into the ped and am awaiting a call back...

Friends tell me he is just bright and outgoing, (which is great) but I worry there is more to it!

So what are your thoughts? Suggestions? Help me please!!!

Seek help

I understand what you are going through. My daughter just turned 3 and we are going through this. I took her to a psychologist and psychiatrist and they said that they see all the symtoms, but they can't definately diagnose until she is five and won't medicate.

You know your child the best. ADHD means that you have a lot of struggles, but our children are smart, bright, and loving. They also know how to make us their worst enemy. All the doctors that i have seen told me to go to the internet and get support.

I started crying when I read some of the articles because it enforced what I felt. Most people do not know the frustration of discipline. I have been in tears so many times because my daughter won't listen, she is impulsive, she wont sit still!!! No matter if I spank or give her a time out, she's crazy rebellious!!!!

It will get easier. Just read a lot of articles and start seeking out ways you can help your son!

Good luck!

thanks!

Thanks for the reply! We have an appointment with a psychologist on the 14th. I am anxiously awaiting the appointment.... I am so all over the map with emotions lately. I just feel as though I am failing him right now.... I hope the doctors can give us some tools to make day to day life easier! Just last night a family bike ride turned into a nightmare....

Best of luck to you as well!!
