Here's what worked for us...
Hi. My son is 7 and had the same problem. His skin actually started getting flaking / scaling where the patch had been applied. I discussed it with his doctor. She said the patch can cause dry skin, which causes the itching. She recommended not using soap when bathing, but instead use Neutrogena Rainbath. It's expensive. The cheapest I found it was at Wal-mart for around $10. But, it lasts a long time and seemed to help. Initially, I put it in his bath water and let him soak for about 10 minutes. After his bath I applied a diaper rash cream (specifically Butt Paste) to the area where the patch had been applied. I was also very careful not to apply the patch in the same place for a few days. One day the upper left hip, then upper right, then lower left, then lower right. Once the flaking cleared up, the itching stopped. He then started taking showers, but with no soap, just the Rainbath. Afterward, I apply baby lotion, even though his skin has cleared up. This has prevented the problem from reoccurring. Note - I was having trouble with the patch sticking the next day, so I only apply the baby lotion to the side I've removed the patch from and apply the patch to the other side the next morning. Let me know if that helps.
