How to handle a torturously BORING job?

My current job is like torture to me because there simply isn't enough to do. I sit 8 hours a day every weekday hoping and waiting for some task or project to keep me occupied and make me feel productive. At the end of the day I am so weak and depressed, both mentally and physically, just from having no kind of mental challenge or stimulation. I feel so trapped, and discussing it with my boss hasn't helped. I can't afford to just quit, and, given the current economy, the prospects of finding another job have been slim to none. Does anyone have any suggestion on how an ADDer can survive in such a situation? :-(

I know what you mean there. Sometimes I have to do things so boring I can hardly stay awake.

Actually you have a opportunity to impress the heck out of our boss. Ask the boss if you can help with some other task while you're doing your normal job. For example, if you're an orginazer, ask if you can help organize the files. Look around and offer to help with something. If you're boss doesn't have anything, ask a coworker. You're boss will notice and really appreciate it.

I'm a programmer myself and would constantly have a job that's boring and end up write a program to make it easier. My bosses loved it and it kept me from being bored to tears.
