Vyvanse Not Working..Now What???

My son is 6 1/2 yrs old was diagnosed when he was 5 with ADHD combined. We have tried Concerta, focalin xr, medidate CD, Adderall XR and lastly vyavanse. He was doing well on vyvanse but teachers complaining not focusing so we increased it to 30mg. He now talks out of the side of his mouth so I stopped it! He acted like a cartoon character but once I stopped the med that went away. I'm running out of options and now they are talking about Straterra??? Anyone gone from Vyvanse to Strattera? All these stimulants had severe side effects on him. He's 6 yrs old and emotionally decompansating!!! I have tried to have him re-tested but the waiting lists are incredibly long. I have him on a waiting list for a pedi partial hospital program where they can actually get to know my son before prescribing more meds! I'm frustrated and angry at the system that is supposed to help our children! We do the diet and vitamins but see little change. My son on Sunday just broke down at night crying literally sobbing saying over and over"I can't do this, I can't do this" My heart broke for him. He doesn't have the words to explain to me what's going on. So I just hold him trying not to cry myself. He has anxiety and I think these stimulants make it worse. Does anyone have expereience with anxiety meds in kids this young? What has worked? Please help! I can't sit by and watch him breakdown and do nothing! Being a mom is a hard job being a mom to a child with ADHD is really hard! I know this is just the beginning for us and appreciate the input! Thanks

a mom who understands

My son was diagnosed when he was 5 as well. We have always been on Adderrall XR. We had to try all the mgs though. We have been on 30 mg for quite a while and it seems to work really well for us. I do not have any advice about the other meds. But hang in there. My son was also diagnosed with oppisitional defiant disorder. So he has definatly been a challenge. He used to have major outburst and angry meltdowns, but with the meds, he is like a brand new person. He is like night and day with the meds. I used to think that I would never get through any of this, back when he was first diagnosed and before that as well. It was the hardest thing I have gone through so far in life, just about. Something will turn around for you eventually.
