Am I Giving the Right Supplements?
About two weeks ago I had enough of watching my daughter go through the awful side effects of Vyvanse. this being the second time she was taking it plus the fifth medicine she had taken in the last year for adhd, I put her on natural supplements. she takes the following: morning- ADD-care, consists of 335mg of l-tyrosine and 165 mg of GABA and two Animal Parade children's mutivitamins lunchtime two Country Life Omega 3 Mood softgels = 2,000mg fish oil concentrate (1,000mg EPA and 150mg of DHA) and 12.5 mg of Zinc bedtime-200 mg of magnesium citrate and 400mg of calcium w/vitamin D Just taking the above now for only a few weeks, she is doing great. If this the right things to give her? Should I change or add anything else? Thanks for the input |

See a Naturopath
If you have a Naturopath in your area I would schedule a visit so you can review what your child is taking. Our Naturopath has him on Nature's Sunshine products (been in business for over 35 years) and he takes the following: Breakfast -- Skeletal Strength (1:1 magnesium:calcium), Stress multi-vitamin, Attention Focus, Omega 3, Bifidophilus and Proactizyme Lunch -- Proactizyme and Chondroitin Dinner - Proactizyme, Bifidophilus, Skeletal strength Bed - Attention Focus Our son also has underlying metabolic issues from surgery he had when he was a child, so he needs the proactizyme to help digest his food better (in his small intestine), bifidophiulus for large intestine health and chondroitin to help him grow. We are very pleased with the results because we tried so many different meds including the patch and Vvyanse and the side effects were awful for him. |

Fish Oil
there are several brands of chewable and liquid omega 3's. i buy from the vitamin shoppe or on-line at vitacost.com. my four year old son take the Carlson liquid brand of fish oil for kids. the directions say to give 1/2 tsp. i put his in his drink in the morning. i also tend to go by what Dr. Weil says about supplements. he is very knowlegable and open to natural supplements. according to his website this is what he says: How much does a child need? Fish oil has been used at one to three grams daily to help alleviate the symptoms of ADHD in children. Effective doses are not clearly established, so consult your pediatrician before giving children fish oil supplements. i give my daugther who is 8, 1 gram a day by capsules. i might try going to 2 grams soon. |
