Hello

Hello! This is probably a very good part of the forum for me. I am an ADHD mother of 2. My daughter is 9, and has dyslexia. My son is 4, and most likely will eventually be diagnosed with ADHD. My biggest issue with parenting is my own ADHD, especially with my son. The two of us combined have presented me with some very interesting challenges. You would think that there would be more empathy from me for his never ending energy. My mom lovingly calls him my "karma child" for a good reason. The truth is, I am hypersensitive and easily irritated by his boundless energy and lack of impulse control. His kiddo ADHD traits + my adult ADHD traits= constant chaos. Any advise from other ADD/ADHD parents of ADHD kids would be much appreciated.

Thanks! Steph

Parents & Kids with ADHD

I knew I wasn't the only one! I have ADHD and so does my son. All of the books and articles I've found so far (haven't delved into the links above) are geared toward parents who don't have ADHD (or at least, parents who have organizational skills). I know a structured environment is a huge help to a kid with ADHD...but if I can't even structure my own life, how am I supposed to help him? So far, working on my own skills has been challenging since I'm still trying to deal with his symptoms too.

Any advice anyone can give about both parents and children having ADHD would be wonderful! Of course, it feels great just to know I'm not alone.

ADHD Mom

You sure aren't alone. If you have a child with ADHD, there's a 60 percent chance that either Mom or Dad is also diagnosed with ADHD. Did you happen to read this article: 4 Life Tips for ADHD Moms?

I hope this is helpful.
