Straterra and Side Effects

Hello everyone. I just found this site and it's awsome. I was recently put on 40 mg of Straterra a day for two weeks, and then bumped up to 80 mg a day. I have read a lot about the side effects and have expereienced a few of them, but not to the degree that I thought I would. I have noticed a difference at work and at home, though in the two weeks that I have been taking it. So I was wondering if others on Straterra have really gotten the results that they wanted with this drug and if the side effects wear off after time.

Strattera

Hi Beefer,

You don't say what side effects you are experiencing with the Strattera. I guess if the side effects are tolerable for you and you feel you are getting some benefit then you should continue on. Myself, I tried this a while back and the side effects were too much - shaking so much I couldn't type, which is what I was doing for work at the time. This past year I was prescribed it again and thought I would give it a second chance, but one dose told me No, even to the tune of a $50 copay. So, it works for some obviously and not as well for others. Keep us posted as to how you are doing.

Strattera side effects

Both of my kids are on Strattera and it works well for them. In fact my daughter has adhd and I can see a huge improvement with her hyperactivity when she is on it vs. when she forgets to take it. My son has add and it helps him focus. He says he can definitely tell when he doesn't take it. He can't pay attention as well. Neither of my kids seem to have any side effects from it. I have add as well but try to manage it without drugs because everything I have tried has caused me to have a bad side effect. Strattera works a little bit for me, although I can't tell a big difference but at the end of the day when it wears off, around 5 or 6 in the evening, I crash hard. I'm so sleepy I can't function. It's not worth it for me, but would not do without it for my kids.

Strattera

I have taken this med and find it to be one of the best I have tried and the effects do not seem to wear off over time. I have not had to up my dosage and I have been on it for years. I do find in the beginning that if you can get through the first week of side effects then I was good to go. It has made a big difference in my life and my families.

Thanks for the replys

Well thanks everyone for replying. The side effects I noticed were mainly sleeplessness at first, but that has seemed to go away. The other was the sexual ones, but I didn't think people would want to hear about those. What I have noticed is that I don't fidget anymore at all. I used to play with my eyebrows, I know that sounds funny but the guys at work would tease me when I would do that, and it was very bad when I got stressed. I don't even have the slightest urge to do that anymore. I also am able to think more clearly and consicely. I don't plan out grand schemes, wasting most of my time, and then only getting part of a project done. I just get to it now. This is only week three for me and I know they say that the full effect of the drug takes about 4-6 weeks to kick in. I am very happy so far. I know I did my research and agonized over wheather to take it or not. I'm glad I did, so far.

Is it used for ADD and ADHD?

My son was just started on this drug (low dose - 10 mg. and he's 19) then up it by 10 mg. a week. Is it useful for both ADD and ADHD? He has ADD. Thanks.

Night Terrors?

I started on the Strattera just over a month ago, 1 week of 25mg, then 2 weeks of 40, then bumped up to 80mg for the last 2 weeks. My doc said it usually takes about 4 weeks to notice any changes, but right at about week 4 the side effects kicked in. They might not be related at all, but I can't think of any other reason for these symptoms. I had severe night terrors for about 4 nights in a row, thankfully those seem to be gone now, first and only time I've ever had them, but let me tell you, it was probably one of the scariest side effects I've ever had in my life. I've noticed some "bathroom problems"....or lack thereof if you get my drift. I've started taking something to help move things along lol, but I can't take that stuff forever, so the Strattera might have to go just for that reason alone. And I've also seemed to feel more depressed the last few days, really weepy, sad, negative feelings and anxiety. Kinda feels at times like I'm crawling out of my skin, just not feeling like myself at all. And I'm not noticing much of an improvement in the ADD symptoms. In some aspects I feel like I can focus more, but I'm either anxious or depressed so it doesn't do me much good. I have problems with energy levels, and daytime sleepiness, so I also take 200mg Provigil, but even that isn't really helping with energy. My doc is hoping that once the Strattera starts to work then we can take me off of the Provigil (I have quite a few RX's that I get filled every month, and can't afford to take the Strattera AND Provigil), but I'm not seeing the results that I'd like at this point. I'm wondering if Adderall might help me more, but I'm not sure if it would give me the same side effects as the Strattera....Anyways, I'm rambling....guess what I'm getting at, is if your progress is stronger than the side effects, stick with it. How long have you been on it? You may of already said that, but surprise surprise, I don't remember lol. Oh and on the "Sexual" side effects you mentioned, I've heard its very common.....I personally wouldn't know if mine are related to the Strattera, all my other meds/issues have all jumbled together, so it's hard to know what the culprit is exactly. Hope some of this helps, good luck and hang in there.
