Looking for a child psychiatrist in the Phoenix/Scottsdale Arizona area

Can anyone give a recommendation for a child psychiatrist in the Phoenix/Scottsdale Arizona area? I am looking for someone who will take the time to listen and not just want to prescribe meds. Please note, I am not against medication I just want a doctor who will make a sound judgement and who is familiar with children's mental health issues. Thanks for your help.

I''m looking too, same area (kinda, Glendale)

Wanted to give this post a BUMP!

I am looking for a psychiatrist for my self, I'm 35, but I know that some adults are treated by child psychiatrists. Any information you find would be gratefully recieved. If nothing else, someone in the specialty might know of some one who treats adults. This is pretty scary, I'm a psych nurse and I can't find anyone. I ran away from an abusive marriage and am starting over 2000 miles from everyone I know. I had a wonderful NP, but I need a new MD, and a therapist. I'm floundering. If anyone knows of someone I am not against driving a long distance,,,,,

Re: looking for a child psychiatrist

Hi All

My name is Dr. Lynda Vaterlaus and I am a Clinical Psychologist in the phoenix area. I work with children off all ages and focus on ADHD and anxiety. My treatment of choice is more behavioral and I focus on teaching children and adolescents skills for coping with their difficulties rather than turning directly to medication. In fact, of my caseload I have recommended less than 5 to try medication. There is a lot that can be done without meds, it just takes patience and willingness to try different things. I know of a number of great psychiatrists in the area as well, if you do want to go the med route, Dr. Tracy Collins is very good. If you are interested in more information on treatment, therapy and/or assessment feel free to visit my facebook page www.facebook.com/phoenixpsychologist.

Thanks and have a wonderful day.

Lynda
