Ritalin to Concerta
Just yesterday I went to my primary care for a meds checkup, she decided to switch me from short acting Ritalin to Concerta. At first I was on 5mg 2 times a day. When I realized this was not working, I played with my dosage, starting with 10mg in the morning 5 in the afternoon, then I tried 10mg in the morning 10 in the afternoon, which was definitely working, but just not long enough. So when I went yesterday she switched me to 18mg concerta, and today is my first dosage. I am tired, and its not working, I feel the same I did when I took the 5mg ritalin, it wants to work and does not. I have gotten used to actually accomplishing things at work and today I am frustrated that I just can not focus, and she told me to come back in a month. Does anyone have any suggestions? |

Dosages
I'm sure it is frustrating. You are dealing with a common complaint for ADHD adults -- finding the right dosage (and/or the right medication). ADHD medical experts usually advise to give the medication a few days to work, and if nothing happens, you probably need to adjust your dose. It could also be that you need to try a different ADHD medication. But you need to give the Concerta a few days to see if you get any results. You should work with your doctor on this. I'm sure you don't want to wait a month to make adjustments. Maybe wait a week or so to see if the medication kicks in then check in with your doctor. I would hope she would be willing to work with you. I'm sure you don't want to wait a month to get your focus back. I hope this helps. Dena |
