Has anyone switched from Strattera to Adderall XR? If so, did you have to go without meds before switching to Adderall? What was it like?

adderall XR to Strattera

I don't know if this will help but i did the reverse.I went from adderall XR to Strattera and yes Ii had to go without meds inbetween the two. It should not be bad with the strattera because it is not a stimulent, unless it working for you. For me to go with out any Strattera i have a great sensory overload. However, i have been on every drug out there and it is the only drug that has made my life manageable . hope this helps you should be ok

Strattera to Adderall XR

After slightly more than a year on Strattera, I had enough of the side effects and stopped taking it. Approximately four months later I started taking Adderall XR. The difference was night and day. While on Strattera, I wondered if it was actually working. The only way to tell was to go off it for four or five days. It seemed to assist in levelling out mood shifts by cutting the highs and lows. As well, mood changes seemed to not shift as rapidly and occur as often. What was missing for me was assistance with focus and impulsivity. Adderall on the other hand, gave me what Stratterra did and really helped immediately with focus. There seemed to be a point after three months, however, where the "wow" factor lessened and I hit a plateau. It's been a year since then. In that time, changes have been made in dosage as well as when and how I take it. I now take 50mg as soon as I get up and 20mg around 10:00 am. This seems to work for me. The real issues for me to deal with are staying on track. I can get easily sidetracked by computer/internet use. I can also get stuck for hours writing the perfect email reply to a customer inquiry. There is also the issue of planning and priority setting. This is an on-going process of improvement. Before I go on-line for work purposes, I write down what it is I'm looking for in order to focus my activities. The back up plan consists of three things: 1. Use a timer. If all I'm doing is looking for information like contact information, I limit myself to three minutes. 2. I use a program called lock+rest. It's free and I highly recommend it. Every 45 minutes, my computer screen freezes for 3 minutes. This is a good back-up when I've ignored the timer and have kept on surfing. I get up and stretch and have some water. The benefit is that it breaks the hyperfocus brain-lock. After 3 minutes, I ask myself where I'm at with the task at hand and what do I need to do next. 3. The last part of the plan is to use Outlook to keep track of to-do lists. You can flag to-do's and set reminders to pop-up. With reference to the transition from Stratterra to Adderall, my understanding is that Stratterra needs to build up in your system over time and Adderrall works right away and is out of your system in 12 hours. Ask your doctor, but I don't think you will have a problem making a complete switch immediately. Good luck.
