Ritalin (methylphenidate)
I am a 29 yr old Female. My Docotor put me on Ritalin 8 days ago I should say she put me on the generic form methylphenidate. She told me to take 5mg in the morning and 5 in afternoon. She said if that was not enough to try 10mg i n the AM and 5MG in the afternoon. The first few days i did the 5 & 5 as she suggested it made me feel a bit weird, and helped a little, then stopped, so i started taking 5mg in the AM and 10mg in the afternoon, the first day of doing this i noticed a change, the 2nd day someone at work had said somene took my personality and smashed it ( i am normally very happy go lucky and talkative) then the 3rd and 4th day i can tell when it is hitting my system, and then it does nothing for me, except make my body feel as if it needs more.. I am still distracted and have a hard time staying on task, and right now at work i have a project that needs the most detail as possible. I am going back to my doctor on june 30th to see how i am. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do. This is annoying me because i can almost tell it wants to work, but instead makes me a tad bit irritable and a little sad and i can't eat most of the day but all that passes by evening. I am also wondering if the irratibility will go away?

Ritalin
I'm a 58 year old man and like you am also on my 8th day of Ritalin. My doctor also told me to start with 5mg in the morning and another 5 in the afternoon but said that I should feel free to play around with the dosage. After 2 days with little effect I doubled it, taking 10mg when I get up for work at 3:30 am and another 10mg around 11 am. Two days of that and I started feeling stronger, like there was a "will" developing where there used to be just a "want". I thought maybe this was it - my "fog of thoughts" has lifted - no side effects, no crashing, no jitters. Then after another 2 days I get word that my older brother has developed terminal lung cancer and suddenly my "focus" goes out the window. I'm feeling a little more solid today but am now keenly aware that this stuff is no cure - life can still intervene and knock you off your feet when you least expect it. I think the trick is going to be patience - it took us a while to get to this point, after all, and it's gonna take some time to find the right balance. |

I take Ritalin La 20mg and Ritalin 10 mgs in afternoon
With the La dose I also take Wellbutrin XL and it is the only thing that works for me. It takes a few weeks to a few months to figure out the medications. Wellbutrin is a antidepressant that works well with the stimulants the down side is after they are worn off I have a major carbohydrate craving because I lose my appetite all day. The craving start about 7pm after the doses have started to wear off. U should not feel jumpy or irritable when taken the medication. And they only work for the hours they are on board soon as wear off you are the same ADHD person you always were. |
