Has Anyone Here Experienced This...

Hi All,

I'm new here, and came hoping to find someone who has had a similar experience as mine, and found a medication that mimics the effect. Allow me to explain; I have been ADD (without the hyper-activity) all my life. I finally sought out a definitive diagnosis and tried many different meds (adderall, ritalin, cylert [the stimulants], norepinephrine, Wellbutrin, and a few others I can't think of right now). Nothing worked at all.

At the time I was a police officer, and I noticed that when I was thrown into a high pressure, highly charged situation, my thinking became CRYSTAL CLEAR (I can't emphasize these two words enough). I know it was the result of the adrenaline rush caused by the situation at hand. I want to know if anyone else who has had similar experiences has found a prescription drug that mimics the mechanism that adrenaline works on that causes our thinking to become clear like this....???????

On a side note, I have found a combination of two drugs - prozac and clonazepam - that help me immensely with the "circular thinking" and the "cocktail party" going on in my head. They help me stay focused and cut down on my distractability. But I'm far from where I want to be. I want that "crystal clear" thinking that I used to get as a cop - all the time. Any ideas? Thoughts? Comments?

Thanks, Rex

long ago and far away...

I'm 58, and the only thing I've ever experienced that gave me that kind of sustained clarity was pharmaceutical methedrine. I was never able to get it legally, but it was the only time in my life I've actually been able to meditate.

HMMM...

Maybe I'll try to score some crystal meth on the way home tonight... :)

Seriously though, it sure would be nice to find SOMETHING that would give us that kind of clarity for prolonged periods of time. I wonder where one could get pharmaceutical methedrine?

Rx for crazy

I'd like to find something safer that would have the same effect because the clarity you get with speed comes at too high a price - it's extremely addictive and makes you crazy. My mother had a Rx for it back in the 60's - she called them her "skinny pills", but I suspect she was using them for ADD. I don't know how she did it because I never had that degree of restraint. Eventually my tolerance would get too high and alarm bells would start going off in my head telling me to stop before the paranoia set in. Even if I found a source for it today I don't think I would use it - meth is a prescription for insanity. There's got to be something else.

messing around with brain chemistry

The words attention deficit are words that refer to a broad range of personality traits or behaviors that are sometimes learned or a result of the brain chemistry being so called 'abnormal'. I wonder if people who have been labeled with the so called disorder would have felt differently about life had they lived in a place or time that offered opportunities to let the brain recover from stress and anxiety. There is a good book written by ' Gabor Mate' about ADD. Taking pharmaceuticals for treating brain chemistry problems can be very frustrating because of the side effects. I know someone who suffers from manic depression who took tens and tens of different medications before he found one that worked. Read up on brain chemistry and adrenaline. This article might be interesting too.

A variety of mental and behavioral changes have also been associated with zinc deficiency in humans, including apathy, lethargy, amnesia, irritability, depression and paranoia, as well as mental retardation. It is better to have a check with your physician to a adhd treatment for you. This page may help you http://www.add-adhd-teen-help.com/add-adhd/what-are-some-of-the-best-adhd-treatments.html

If you are looking for child behavior help there are some child behavior modification programs that work well for many parents of defiant children.

Meds specialist

My stepbrother experienced the same as yours. Until our cousin introduced PhoneConsultation.com for the meds and they deliver within 3 days. I've noticed that they are serving several states than they used to. Have you tried this site?

Mourning the Loss of Pemoline (Cylert)

I was one of those left out in the cold with the withdrawal of pemoline from the market in early 2006. I have been stuck with modafinil as my only non-amphetamine choice ever since, and, frankly, for ADD (for me, anyway) it is relatively worthless. Pemoline was my sliced-bread. It worked better than any of the amphetamines, was virtually addiction-proof, and had no evidence of decreased efficacy with a constant dose over a very long timeframe.

As you might be aware, modafinil is very expensive in the US ( $8.50/pill - and, for me, that's x 2). I've been getting it in India through my world-traveling brother for $.25/pill - a mere 2% of the US cost. I have not been able to find pemoline, however, anywhere in the world, which is what prompted my writing. Is there anywhere in the world where pemoline is still sold? I find it incredibly hard to believe - read: impossible - that after a 70-year run, all of a sudden it causes acute, irreversible liver failure in a significant number of cases to have prompted Abbott to have issued its every 2-week liver enzyme lab-test mandate. This, I believe, is a manifestation of pure greed on Abbott's part. Funny how the warning came out right after pemoline was available in generic form from Sandoz and Malinkrodt. This, of course, virtually shut down any market for this remarkably useful drug. My guess is, also, that virtually all the cases of liver failure were in children - although I have no proof of this.

The quality of my life has been dramatically, and negatively, affected by my lack of access to pemoline. If any of you know of any way to obtain it - through experimental or other channels - I would be most interested in finding out how. I am more than willing to accept the minimal (as I see it, anyway) risk of pemoline use - at least compared to the relative non-efficacy of modafinil (or it's new single-isomer armodafinal), or the blood-pressure/alpha-adrenergic/cardiac/tolerance risks of the amphetamine route - to get back what has been taken from me.
