New to All of This

Sorry if this is going to be a bit long.. Today at 8:00am I took my first dose of a 5mg Ritalin. Nothing really changed in me I was a bit more jittery but I figure my body needs time to adjust. I will take this 2 times a day. I am 29 years old and a female. My life has never been perfect my parents are divorced, my childhood was not good. At 19 I was diagnosed with depression and generalized anxiety disorder and was on Cylart (anti depressant and prescribed Xanax) which i never took. I was in counseling and then stopped going. A couple years later, i went back into counseling, where I then went to a psychiatrist who put me on Lexapro for depression.. I took it for a year, came off. I am not back in counseling. I decided to go back because i was being very short with my boyfriend, I was sick of my disorganize behavior, and within in minutes she told me she thought i was slightly depressed and suggested I just go see my primary care physician for medication. Yesterday i went to her, and after talking to her, I told her I was reluctant to be put on an anti depressant, that i don't feel sad or down, that my motivation is low, my focus is off, and as i amtalking 100mpm she says to me, "your symptoms sound like adhd." I told her i had just taken some test at my counselors office, and so she prescribed me Ritalin.

I am hoping this helps my issues. My life has never been perfect or normal and I worry that this may be misdiagnosis. I don't know how Ritalin is supposed to help me focus, since so far today all i have done is researched adult ADHD and wondering if this has been my problem my whole life...

Meds

I wouldn't pretend to know whether you have ADHD or not, but I can say that I saw very little effect at that low of a dose. Once I was on the proper dose, there was a dramatic change.
