Daytrana Patch

Help! My son has taken every medication under the son. He is 9 years old. Have had great success with daytrana patch until this past Monday. He has been taking it for about 45 days and then he broke out with severe hives. Stopped the patch and went back to Focalin which doesn't have the same success. The school says it really is too bad because he was such a different kid in school on the patch (for the better) able to sit and do the work. Has anyone had success with the daytrana patch and then had to go off for some reason? if so, what was the next drug that was tried and did it work? Has anyone had a allergic reaction to the patch gone off and gone back on? Any ideas or thoughts would be GREAT

Daytrana Patch

My son also had an allergic reaction to the patch. At first, he just had the red skin from where the patch was, but it got worse and worse as the weeks went on and began really itching and hurting my son. We stopped the patch and tried Focalin XR (didn't work well at all for him) and now are back to Ritilin. He's tkaing Ritilin LA, 20mg in the morning (8am) and that appears to get him to the end of school. The is his first week on it and so far, so good.

One thing you may want to try with the patch that his Dr. reccommended....spray some Flonase (allergy nasal spray, RX only) on the skin BEFORE you apply the patch there. Let it dry and then put on the patch.

I've read that 1 in 4 kids have that allergic reaction to the Daytrana. It's too bad, because it's VERY effective and so easy to use! I also loved that I could put it on my son in the mornings while he was still sleeping and have a nice morning!

Daytrana Patch for adults??

Hi,

I am wondering if any adults have tried Daytrana & how it worked. Did it help you focus? Any negative side effects?

What about sleeping problems? I am very frustrated trying to figure this med thing out.

Almost all the info on this website seems to be focused on meds & children.

Is there any info on adults & the different kinds of meds & how they worked? Which are stimulants which are not?

I'd be very interested in other adults & their experiences with the meds they have taken etc.

I'd really appreciate any insight you might have.

Thanks so much.

Daytrana Patch

We've tried a number of stimulant meds with my 8 yr old son who is diagnosed with ADHD. Over the past 2 years we have tried Concerta (metabolized too fast and couldn't increase dose due to appetite suppression and bad rebound effect); then Focalin XR (didn't treat the symptoms well at all); then Vyvanse (extremely bad personality side effects - extreme defiance, anger, depression to the point he talked about suicide - would not recommend this medicine to anyone!). Then we tried Daytrana - what a completely wonderful experience! All the negativity was gone, he was happy and focused. Grades were up and behavior issues we'd struggled with subsided. His daily report card from school showed perfect days. Unfortunately after 2 months he developed the same allergic reaction reported above. We tried moisturizing creams and hydrocortisone, but it got to the point he couldn't leave it on for more than 30mins before it started hurting, itching and the welt didn't subside until days after. Now we're trying to get by on 10mg of Ritalin twice a day until we see the child psychiatrist week for further suggestions. It's so disappointing because the patch really was a fantastic option and worked well.

Daytrana Patch

We had the same reaction MoMof2 had with the Vyvanse & also would not recommend it for children - it was scary. We wanted to try Daytrana but 8yo son was pretty adamant he would not wear the patch so we are on Ritalin LA. We started at 10mg & have been upping - we are at 20 - 25 or so mg & while it does address issues, it wears off in less than 12 hrs & has a serious rebound effect. It's torture when he's off it. Really wanting to do the Daytrana but now concerned about these rashes.
