ADHD & Celiac Disease / Gluten Intolerance

Hi, My son (11 yrs) was diagnosed with ADHD a year & 1/2 ago and with Celiac Disease 6 mos. ago. I know from sources on Celiac Disease (CD) that ADHD occurs much more frequently for those with CD than in the general population. These sources also state that for CD'rs gluten really exaggerates ADHD symptoms. I've noticed that my son's ADHD symptoms (when unmedicated) are much improved now that he is gluten-free. So much so that we've lowered his dosage of ADHD meds. I'm wondering if there is any research on this connection in the ADHD community or if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Celiac and adhd

We have also been struggling with an ADHD diagnosis and just got diagnosed with celiac disease this week. I refused to allow our child to be medicated for ADHD without exhausting our resources for any other options first. I ran across a website that was about misdiagnosed conditions and the post mirrored our experience which led to the testing and bingo we found it... We are going to be working with a nutritionist and going gluten free and see if there is any improvement prior to the ADHD meds route. We have seen top doctors for both conditions and I am surprised none of them have mentioned celiac testing... This includes pediatricians, neurologists, cardiologists, allergist and ADHD specialists. We have been chasing this for years while our sons emotional well being has been effected in school... We are hopefully on a path to change...
