Not Sure if My 15yr Old has Inattentive ADD or Not?

Hi, Hope someone can help me with this. I have been reading up on Inattentive ADD recently as a lot of the symptoms seem to fit my 15yr old girl, she has always had a lot trouble focusing on things she isn't keen on, like homework, remembering tasks & never seems to be able to learn from her mistakes - but she is extremely outgoing, makes friends easily, has great social skills, is really keen on certain kinds of learning & teaching methods, she is on all the school sports teams for example. Recently she has gone off the rails a bit and started drinking alcohol with her friends & for the last year it has been an increasingly difficult battle to get her to put a meaningful effort into schoolwork, some of her teachers recognize this but say she participates well in class. Is this typical of a 15 yr old with Inattentive ADD???

Teenager ADHD?

It sounds like your daughter is exhibiting symptoms of being a typical teenage girl. Girls are typically better at covering up their ADHD symptoms, hence ADHD women tend to go undiagnosed. ADHD doesn't always look the same in girls as it does in boys. There are symptoms unique to women. Have you considered the role that your daughter's changing hormones play in her behavior? If you are concerned that your daughter's suspected ADHD is interfering with her ability to function in everyday life, then you should have her evaluated by a medical professional who will be able to tell you if she does in fact have ADHD or is just being a teen.

Good luck.
