Should I Be Concerned?
Hello, I am new to the boards here and was hoping you all could help. My son is almost 9 and has ADHD. He has made leaps and bounds of progress since being on Concerta this year. I don't have the daily phone calls from the school about his disruption etc, he's just been fantastic this year. Now that the other issues have cleared away I am more aware of his lack of friendships. He's very social and outgoing within the class room, but I've been told that out at recess he is at times a loner. Happy to be playing by himself and not moping, but alone nonetheless. When I ask him questions about who he hung out with with at lunch, gym or recess, I get the same answer..."Everyone". His Teacher confirms that he is friendly with everyone. Recently a girl in his class has been picking on him and he finally admitted that to me. I'm worried that he doesn't have a group/click/BFF or whatever that would have his back and stick up for him. Is this a symptom of ADHD? Just happy and non committal to anyone? Thank you |

Friends
It sounds like your son is doing just fine being who he is. If he doesn't seem lonely or unhappy and isn't acting out, then maybe he just enjoys his alone time and there isn't anything wrong with that. Friends will come eventually, but he might be uncomfortable being singled out because he isn't being friendly enough.Yes, ADHD kids sometimes struggle with making friends. I think the key word here is "happy". If you are still concerned and would like to get involved, take a look at these articles: How Parents Can Help ADHD Children Make Friends Become Your Child's Friendship Coach Help ADHD Children Make Friends I hope this helps.
