New School

I can breath a big sigh of relief. I meet with the new school yesterday, and omg I feel much much better. The teacher is sooo nice and I put to rest all the rumors. They do go out and play on the playground equipment and they do go on trips. Their enitre day is based on a 100 point day (academic and social skills) , and they send a daily report home as to their behavior. There are 12 students in the classroom with 3 teachers....can you imagine the one on one time....they focus on the social skills first and the academics just seem to follow in automatically. She was very very nice. She showed me the reward system...they exchange their points for classroom 'money' they use to gain extra time on the computer or games, or they can get pencils or candy. They have a social worker that has a classroom right across the hall...who comes in at least a half an hour a week for a class on social skills. Seems they are prepared for lots of things. She showed me the time out room and explained the procedure to me and told me exactly how they do it...and even told me that accordingly to our state there is a limit to how long they can be in there ( 30 min) and if they don't calm down by then then they have to call me....because of how many teachers there are there is always a teacher with them....I feel so much better....this new program will be wonderful. To make things better his school has found him an aide to finish his school year at his home school....things are looking up......=)

New School

Sounds wonderful. Can you tell me how old your child is and what kind of school you have found (i.e. is it specific to children with special needs, etc.?). Thank you.

Curious of New School

This school sounds amazing! Is it private, public, parochial or special needs school? Sounds like they are very ADHD savvy. I could only dream of a program like this for my 6 year old son!!!!!

Just check it out in action

It does sound wonderful, but I caution you to visit the classroom in operation before you start there. My son was placed in a program that sounds exactly like what you describe, and we did not visit the classroom beforehand. We relied on the assurances of administrators, which sounded like it was the perfect place. The moment i stepped into the class on the first day, I knew it was not appropriate for him. We gave it the benefit of the doubt for a few more months, which I regret. This was a public school system with a huge bureaucracy. Many of the stipulations of the IEP were either not carried out or took forever to get accomplished.

living attitude is new style.Inspired by the gorgeous handbags and other items my friend, Barbara, makes from felted wool sweaters, I'm experimenting with this process. It promises to be great fun! Partially worn out blue jeans lend themselves to many new uses from aprons to picnic quilts to flunky skirts. Think creatively about your old items and see what you can come up with
