Inattention to Detail Hurting His Job Performance

My son, 24, used to take medication to help for his ADD. He is graduated now from college and refuses to take the medication (which had helped him). He is pursuing a career in broadcasting and lost his first job after the probation period because of mistakes/lack of attention to detail. He was able to get another position with another company but just yesterday he was taken off a task because of his lack of attention to detail (even though they had a system where another staff person would proof read - they felt he had too many mistakes going on to the next level). I have suggested he use caffeine to help him focus but again he refuses. Any ideas or resources? I know he is an adult but I worry that this is going to hurt his career. Any ideas greatly appreciated. Also, does he even tell his employer he has ADD?

Career Choices

I totally sympathize with your son. As a writer and editor, I hate getting my hand slapped for inattention to detail. It took me years to realize that sometimes, no matter how hard I try, I am not the most detail-oriented person in the world. So I try to stick to writing and editing tasks that compliment my strengths. . . My point is that you son just needs to spend a little more time figuring out what his strengths are and find a niche in broadcasting that plays to his strengths. It may take years, and a few more reprimands. But he shouldn't just give up. He knows that inattention to detail is a weakness and will have to work extra, extra hard on that aspect as well. He is still getting started in his career and EVERYONE stumbles and bumbles at first.
