I am looking for input from readers on how and where they find motivation to complete task that are not of interest to them? What works for you and when does it work and when doesn't it work?

Time management is the key

Hello Deb,

Try and plan the mundane tasks and set a priority. Having just completed a time management course (Highly recommended for ADHD), I now just jump in "do it". Some days are better than others for motivation and the key for me is to get it done & out of the way. The longer I leave tasks, the more my stress levels rise. Before being medicated, I'd procrastinate and ignore the task(s) until the last minute. But now, motivation is not so much an issue. I also suffer from seasonal depression which aggrevates the issue.

In essence, allocate a time (preferably first thing in the morning) in a quiet area with no distractions or interruptions. It may not be perfect but it work for me. Goodluck :)

I put myself in situations where I am required to finish tasks. It tortures me but I end up pulling myself through and finishing, which is a really good feeling. It's also a reward and an affirmation. The reward is the end product. After years of failing to finish tasks, the joy of holding a finished product in front of me and cherishing it is worth it. Breathing, relaxation techniques, staying with the present moment, being satisfied with things as they are as I slowly work through the process - all these things help me enormously. Pressure helps me, though I don't like it as much.
