Help! My ADHD Child is Having Behavioral Problems at School!

My son is in the 2nd grade. His grades are good (IQ 120), but his behavior is NOT! I have been working closely with the teacher, but she pushed his desk to the front of the classroom up against and facing the wall with the board on it. I couldn't speak to her about it (TOO MAD) so I discussed it with the principal. He was moved, but based on the teacher's response she saw no problem with his seating arrangment. However, now my son is getting multiple marks daily and has received 2 write ups in 3 days (within 1 week of the incident)! He has only been written up once this year besides these last two! I am afraid that this may be directed at me! How can I approach this without further action against my son!

Working With the Teacher

Hello kittykat:

I can understand your frustration and anger over the situation with your son's teacher. It definitely sounds like there is some kind of communication problem here, and your son is paying the price. Does he have an IEP or 504 Plan? If not, I would recommend setting up accommodations for his ADHD that include specific seating requests.

I would also recommend reading a few of these articles about working with teachers on ADHD accommodations...

I hope this helps!
