Help with ADD Daughter

Help!! I don't know what to do. My 10 year old daughter is out of control and I don't know what to do. Diagnosed as ADD a year ago. We start her on Concerta but the side effects are just as bad. She is moody, cries at the drop of a hat, angry, She is not a happy child. I feel like I want to pull my hair out. I just want to see my child smile and laugh. She struggles in school (reading, math and spelling). She doesn't have any friends and she still wets the bed. Every morning we struggle to get out the door and homework... ends in tears then anger every night. I don't know what to do...?

Side Effects

Hi kittykat

No one should have to live with side effects of ADHD meds.

If Concerta is not working, you should be able to work with your daughter's doctor on an alternative. Demand it!

In the meantime, you might also want to try some alternative ADHD treatments like fish oil and behavior therapy. I would recommend downloading ADDitude's free Alternative ADHD Treatment eBook as a good starting point.

I hope this helps!

I understand

I wish I could offer advice but I need help myself. I have a 9 year old daughter and she has the issues your daughter has except no anger issues( that she shows outwardly anyway). I mentioned in another post that I am reading a book entitled Bright Minds,Poor Grades-Understanding and Motivating Your Underachieving Child. This book seems to discribe her well. I feel like I have tried every strategy known to man and nothing is helping. I have not finished reading the book so I can not tell you what they suggest as a solution. It is odd to me that my 9 year old will wet her clothes because she just doesn't want to take the time to go to the restroom. Can someone be that lazy or unmotivated? I try to ask her questions or get inside her mind so as to figure out what is going on and she just says "I don't know". I hope someone replies to this post with some suggestions:)
