ADHD/Gifted Adolescent
My daughter's testing profile: 99%, slight learning processing delay (not to the point of a disability for which GA would allow accommodations), and perfectionism that slows her down even more than the processing delay. All are part of a child who is struggling excessively in high school. Add that she has an intense curiosity, would love to learn everything about everything, is very driven to take the hardest classes possible (although we would not let her take a full Honors load this year), makes above average grades in "above average classes" (according to GA standards) due to working harder than most students have to, & usually makes above average on all standardized testing (thus, in GA is no eligible for either IEA or 504 plan). She takes forever to do her homework, which becomes a vicious cycle because she stays up late to get it done, becomes chronically tired which slows her down, and then turns in homework late, or occasionally not at all, and does not have enough time to study for some tests which then results in lower grades; failing 1 AP History class now. Has been on Focalin XR 20mg/d & short acting Focalin in the evenings, started Omegabrite 3x/day last week, ordered a smartpen (which we are waiting to see if the school will allow her to use it), uploaded Inspiration software, use a ADDitude suggested time management school organizer, gets exercise, intermittent meditation/stretching & balancing on 1 foot exercises, eats an extremely healthy diet, has tons of unconditional love and support, is a gifted photographer, very talented in creative writing. Any suggestions?
