Provigil

Hey family, Is anyone currently taking Provigil? I am on it and am curious to see how it is working in ya'lls life! Background: I've been clean off drugs/alc. for over a year, & this was the Only Medicine the Rehab Doc would prescribe for Anyone w/ ADD/HD. I didn't abuse, Nor LIKE my adderall (sold it/traded it) for better stimulants. Ugh, I hate Adderall! My joints stiff, back, neck, Thirsty, Crash, Smelly...on & on.

Anyway my point is that I have come to Grips with the fact that a Stimulant is out of the Question for me, And Actually I have started embracing the Fact that This Medicine (Provigil) IS helping? Really, ya'll it's a good Med(hardly ANY side Efeects-headaches). Anyone else tried it???

Peace n Love KAT

Provigil

I have used Provigil with many of my clients and have never had anyone complain of a side effect. There are several who felt it did not give them as much focus as Adderall, but most felt it was similar. By the way Provigil is still a stimulant, just not an amphetamine and that means that it is non-addictive for the general public as well as people with ADD. The only real non-stimulant that I have found as effective as the stimulants is ADD-care.

at night

I take provigil about 30 minutes before I go to bed. It acts similar to Adderall, but feels more like relaxing, not stressing, worring, thinking of stuff that needs to get done etc. I read an article years ago on this site about treating ADHD 24/7. I completely agree. I was diagnosed at age 37 and was use to waking up all night /morning at the slightest sound, having severe difficulty waking in the early am, then being exhausted all day;. According to the Dr., who wrote the article, at night/sleep the mind goes back to ADHD but untreated, so it's racing and you are unable to get into deep REM, sleeping lightly, then waking exhaused. It really, really works for ADHD at night for me. I now can get up, feel rested, and not worry & think about stupid stuff all night.

Sometimes I think I don't really need the Rx for Provigil, so I don't take it. Then I am immediately back to my pattern of light sleep, racing thoughts, and exhaustion the next day. I'm lucky it's covered by Healthcare w/copayt. I have no side affects what so ever, I have taken in day on occassion.... it works, but not as well as Adderall.

I am a HUGE believer in taking my meds day & night including Zoloft for depression. Again I go off it because I feel so normal on it, then downward spiral and drive everyone crazy, then go back on meds.
