Need to Vent...

So nice to find this site! I'm just so sick to death of being like this! seems like I just keep getting worse instead of better and I don't have 24/7 to read everything there is to try to help myself. Even if I did, I don't think it would help. My Psych says she has me on the "highest" dose of Adderall that she can put me on, but I have other "issues" as well, and God I'm sick of taking so many meds every day! I just cannot keep up with it all! I'm 52 y/o, so I guess it really does get harder to teach an old dog new tricks... Anyway, I'm changing Psychs next month. And I'm going to read every single thread & article in this entire website! (of course, I have to copy each one into a Word document and print it, only never get the time to read everything then)...

And, does anyone have a good "calendar" system that works well for them? My Psych said to have only ONE calendar, and a counselor told me to use post it notes not to exceed three things to do each day (ha! yeah, right...)

and so, constantly losing my calendar(s) and gobs of notes, I finally got myself a G1 T-Mobile phone. Only problem, I'm a paperholic... and the phone, as awesome as it is for keeping everything under one roof, doesn't have sub-calendars, so I still create lists in Word and print them.

I feel like I'm becoming totally hopeless! Is there any light at the end of this tunnel? So many tools to help myself, but so much information overload... :@(

Can anyone "feel" me? Thanks for letting me get this out of my system and for your kind support!

Welcome to ADDitude!

Glad you are finding helpful information. There is a lot of information on the site you don't have to print out every article and overwhelm yourself. I suggest maybe doing a search of your most pressing topics and starting from there.

Here are a few articles for you to start with that might help your sticky-note and organization situation. You need to find a organization system that works best for you--everyone is different. Hence, there are lots of suggestions to choose from.

Wow! I really hope you can focus on everything that you have going on. I have ADD and my life has been really tough. I can also say some of it I made myself. I did not understand my harship of learning, daydreaming, forgetfullness and a few other things that ADD can do to a very warm, loving and humorous person. Believe me I struggled like hell, but I made it! My ability to fuction focused, attenative, and punctual is is pretty good, not perfect but pretty good.

Thank you Reuben

I must admit that things are harder for me now even tho' I'm on meds because of all the added stress I'm experiencing at this period in my life. I am planning on taking a proactive stance towards it all however, first by getting a new home for myself and my two boys (a dog and a cat) where 1. I will be getting out of an emotional and verbally abusive marriage, and 2. where I will be living closer to my daughters and grandkids, who will come visit more often with 'him' out of the picture... But it's hard as hell to find a decent place when you live on disability and have to find something where the mtg payment isn't too much over 30% of your monthly income. Once I get settled, hopefully I can find a part-time job that I'm capable of handling. Please say a little prayer for me?

Blessings, Mea

hello

If you are looking for a good callendar, try utelizing Microsoft Outlook. I didn't ever like it when i first tried it, but my works e-mail uses it and I started useing the Outlook callendar feature on it. I am now os used to it that i use it at home as well. It is good, because you can scedule apointments, notes and whatnot all from your e-mail. This way things like birthdays, important meetings and appointments can pop up on your screen the day before or whenever you set them to in advance. I know it is tough, Stress really makes symptoms worsen, belive me I know. If you are on the highest dosage of Adderall they allow you to take, then you need to look at what improvments it has made for you. I try to focus on the positive things, and work on the negative things from there, This way it dosent overwhelm you as much, hopfully. Sorry to hear your having trouble, hope you get it sorted out.

reply to need to vent

Sorry I somehow messed up before with my reply. Trial and error. Anyway I have found post it notes work great stuck to places you know you are going to be that day. For things in the future a paper calender stuck on the wall has been my best bet. I write all my appointments that I accumulate in one day on a piece of paper and when I get home I transfer them to the calender. That way I always see it. Write appointments in bright colors. Hope this helps I know your pain I am both ADD and epileptic and I work as a special education teacher always appointments or something to do. Sometimes I feel as if I am caving in on myself.

OH My

I know this comes late but you sound soooo much like me I feel like I have just found my twin! (We aren't - I am 33) :) When I almost lost my job (they actually hinted at me to find a new profession), cried at anything, became defensive at any thought of critism (constructive or not) I went out and got a coach. Unfortunately it is expensive ( and I will be living with my mother for the next 2000 years) but I tell you what - it has been awesome! My first coach was a blessing! Instead of telling me what to do (I am defiant to - funny that I am a teacher! LOL), she guided me into the right direction (reverse psychology). Now I stop, take a breather, when I see 500000000 postit notes on my computer, find myself surfing the web and printing stupid w/sheets I don't need. If your interested just google ADHD Coach, research them in your area. Many only need a coach for a short period of time.
