Going Crazy Help!!!

I was diagnosed 4 years ago with ADHD and started going to a therapist and taking adderall & zoloft which help with my performance at work and my personal life. Than I was laid off from my job in I.T. two years ago and lost all of my insurance benefits and with that the ability to pay for therapist visit and my meds; got a job that I really hate because my boss makes me feel incompetent and stupid all the time by saying I'm lazy, crazy or I don't know what I'm doing in front of other people either visiting the office or co-workers as he give me more work to do which I try to best my ability to complete by even working on it on my own personal time. I also in the process of losing my house to the bank because I don't make enough to pay my mortgage and bills and eat. I am not a lazy person I have worked ever since I was 14 But the job I am working right now is not even in a field I was trained for and there is no kind of structure things are always changing day to day. I am thinking of maybe quitting or telling my current boss that I have ADHD but I feel he will just use it to insult me further or use as a joke at my expense. I feel like I'm losing my mind and I have no one to really talk about how I feel and always comes across as if I complaining to much or using ADHD as a crutch. I'm embarrassed to tell anyone that I have ADHD because some people don't think it is a disorder they think it is a excuse. I would like to get some help but don't know where to go or who to talk to. Sorry if this does not make any sense I'm really depressed and at my wits end.

First of all you are not crazy

I hope can help alittle. Do you have a free counseling service if you do make an appointment. Many of the stores has generics for $4.00 dollars at walmarts& walgreens and Stop and Shop give certains like antibotics for free. Contact the maker of the drugs they also if you need them and financially can't afford them may have a free or low cost program. I not sure if you have the confidence in yourself, to speak up and put an end to your bosses put downs. You don't have to tell him about your ADD/ADHD unlesss it is going to get you some accomindations; otherwise you ae right it just amonition.I had a similiar problem with an instructor ; and basically told I will not tolerate it . She said" oh yeah!" I said "Oh yeah" with authorityIf you have someone over him seach them out ; and try to find out if anyone else had or has similiar problems. On your free time go on to monster.com or some work engine site, look at the job classifies try to find a job and post your resume . answer anyone who calls you with job offers. Recently I was fired for using my sick time and I made over 90,000 so they want me gone. I am also looking for a job; and have looked into travelling. I'm not sure but sometimes you can do consulting work; and command a very nice salary, also my friend who lost her job after 9/11 did this and wind up working fulltime for one of her consulting businesses. Good Luck- try not to become to bogged down with I hate my job talk in your head and think positive thoughts .

Depressed and Out of Work

Sorry to hear about your struggles. It sounds like your boss isn't a very good manager so try not to take his insults personally. Rather than trying to inspire you to do your best, and like your job, he insults you in front of others--that is just poor management. No wonder you are feeling depressed and overwhelmed. If at all possible you need to try to find the energy to search for a new job and keep your house out of foreclosure. RN's suggestion about getting help with your meds is also a great idea.

Check out the website for Partnership for Prescription Assistance. They can help you determine which medication assistance programs you may be eligible for and then help you apply.

This article about financing ADHD treatment also provides some helpful tips, including talking to your doctor and explaining your financial situation.

Just the act of looking for a new job may help you feel better--like you are moving in a positive direction. Yeah, the job market is tough right now. But there are jobs available for confident and energetic employees. This article on ADHD Career Advice will help you get started taking stock of your strengths and includes other job hunting resources.

You may also consider alternative ADHD treatments. Non-medical treatments often cost much less than traditional medical treatments. For instance, meditation is proven to reduce stress and anxiety and it doesn't cost a thing.

Stay positive and good luck, Dena
