I think I'm going crazy!!!
I am a 25 year old mother of 2 and I think I am going crazy! I have had the depression diagnosis since 7th grade and last summer I had anxiety added to that! I just totally feel like I am going to snap! I am not the mother that I feel like I can be because I have ZERO patients, I'm yelling all the time and I still feel this "hopped up, buzz" all the time but my "anxiety" medication is not working! I am starting to think that I may have ADD/ADHD. I don't know where to go from here. My husband was just diagnosed last year but he had to go to this 4 hr. test that cost us $3,000! I can't do that because we can't afford the testing. Is this the only way that they diagnose ADD/ADHD? I just feel that If I don't get better or at least on the right path I am going to go crazy! There is just too much going on around me all the time that it gets me even more worked up. I have "dreams" of running away all by myself so I can be alone! It makes me so mad becasue I am not enjoying my life at all! Please help! Sorry this is just a vent but I don't know what to do! |

Which test?
I was recently diagnosed with ADHD. My health insurance covers mental care so my out-of-pocket costs were just the copays for visits. Where did your husband get tested and did insurance cover anything? The diagnosis was based on several parts. I took the DSM-IV, which is a series of True/False questions like, "I'd like to become a race car driver" and "My mother is a good person." It was done on paper on site and is used to diagnose a variety of mental health conditions. It think it was 500 questions long and took me a good 2-3 hours to finish. Is that what your husband took? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diagnostic_and_Statistical_Manual_of_Mental_Disorders I had a "take home" questionnaire (Hawthorne test, I believe) about inattentiveness and hyperactivity. There was a version for work, home, and me. I submitted two version: the one my wife filled out about me and my self-assessment. There was an on-site history evaluation and finally a computer test to measure my ability to pay attention. I doubt any single test I took was $3,000, but altogether and with therapy and drug treatment, I can see how the costs can add up, especially without insurance (or even with, if it's not covered). |
